The Et'hem Bej Mosque in Tirana is an architectural masterpiece that left me in awe of its beauty and historical significance. Read moreI hesitated to enter the mosque, as I was not dressed appropriately. However, the caretaker of the mosque eagerly gestured me to enter despite my outfit. He provided me with a shawl to cover up and was very welcoming. I noticed that he was gesturing everyone passing by, regardless of their looks, genders or outfits, to enter the mosque as well. I had never experienced such a welcoming mosque in my life, and I have been to lots of them. I wanted to pray inside the mosque, and despite the language barrier (I used Google Translate), he was very helpful. It was such a heartwarming and memorable experience.
There is no entrance fee. Upon entering the mosque, the caretaker will ask you to remove your shoes and tell you where the donation box is (if you wish to donate). He will also give you a flyer in English which tells the history of the mosque. If needed, he will provide a shawl or a skirt to cover up. The mosque itself is rather small but the ceiling is beautiful. You can pray inside if you are Muslim and/or prefer to, but walking around and taking photos is also fine.
I encourage everyone to enter without hesitation, the caretaker was very welcoming...
