The "Old Flower Seller" (Karabala) monument, crafted by Levon Tokmajyan, is a poignant tribute to Stepan Harutyunyan, a beloved figure in Yerevan's history. Born into a wealthy family that owned flower gardens, Karabala's life took a dramatic turn after the establishment of Soviet rule in Armenia, leading to his dispossession and eventual imprisonment, where he even shared a cell with the renowned poet Yeghishe Charents. Despite the hardships he faced, Karabala's heart remained full of love and kindness, which he expressed by gifting flowers to women and girls passing along Abovyan Street. His affection for actress Arus Voskanyan was particularly notable, as he would daily give her a red rose. The 2-meter-high bronze statue, installed in 1995, depicts Karabala in his old age, with a basket of flowers hanging from his left arm and a rose extended in his right hand, capturing his gentle spirit and the enduring impact he had on the city's residents. Although the statue has been relocated several times due to construction, it remains a significant landmark and a celebration of Karabala's legacy, symbolizing the love and kindness that defined his life.
