Republic Square — Local services in Yerevan

It almost feels pointless to review the square given that, when visiting Yerevan, you can't help but stumble across it whether you want to or not; it's very much the heart of the city. Nevertheless, I was a big fan of the square. We'd heard tell that Yerevan was perhaps a bit more blocky and Soviet than Tbilisi however I didn't feel this to be the case at all; if anything, it just feels more structured as a city in the Western sense and, when in Republic Square, one could easily just be in the more modern parts of Rome. Design of metro station in Yerevan was simple elegant, incomparable to underground palace of their ex-Soviet big brother in Moscow. Metro is not a very popular means of transport in Yerevan as the it were not packed in peak hour, not mentioned that they have only two train carriages at a frequency of 5 minutes. Строительство площади было задумано главным архитектором городаАлександром Таманяном в 1924 году, проект дорабатывался до 1958 года. Первоначально, площадь задумали как овальную, но впоследствии, из-за особенностей прилегающей территории, форму площади решили заменить на сочетание овала с трапецией.

Форму площади образуют 5 зданий:

Mузей Истории Армении,Правительство Армении (на башне здания находятся главные часы страны с колоколами),Центральное здание почты РА,Гостиница «Marriott Armenia»,Министерства иностранных дел и энергетики.

Все здания, находящиеся на площади Республики, сделаны из туфа, а их нижняя часть из базальта. Фасады зданий облицованы фельзитовым туфом белого и розового цветов.
