The City Botanic Gardens in Brisbane are truly a green treasure right in the heart of the city. From the moment you step through the entrance, you’re greeted by beautifully maintained paths, lush tropical plants, and towering heritage trees that make you forget you’re in the middle of the CBD.
What I love most is the variety—peaceful lawns for picnics, shady spots perfect for reading, winding riverfront paths for a scenic walk or cycle, and themed gardens showcasing everything from bamboo groves to palm avenues. The lily ponds and ornamental gardens are stunning, and you can often spot water dragons basking in the sun.
The location couldn’t be better—just a short stroll from major hotels, Queen Street Mall, and public transport. There’s even a café inside the heritage Curator’s Cottage for a relaxing coffee or lunch. Families will appreciate the children’s playground, and fitness lovers can take advantage of the open spaces for yoga, jogging, or outdoor workouts.
The gardens are spotless, safe, and free to enter, making them a must-visit whether you’re a local or a tourist. It’s the perfect escape from the city rush and a reminder of Brisbane’s beautiful, subtropical charm. Highly...

The gardens do have ample benches located around the park and wide open green spaces that are ripe for a blanket and a nap or sunbathing. There is even a small play area for kids (that was very crowded) that offered an escape from the sun and welcome distraction for any little ones.
