Updated Review January 2, 2019. I have been a congressional member for about a year. There is no denying that this is a magnificent structure of a building. But here is my journey. A few weeks after attending an office administrator played electronic pass the parcel with my resume and insisted we have an interview outside, contrary to being able to hear each other clearly indoors. I was then later asked if I would like to lead the church?!! This branch seems to be LGTB friendly. And many have been friends in The Men's Shed attache.
There have been funerals here but I am yet to see a wedding. My time spent here has left me ambivalent as to whether I would have my own wedding here should I marry. Err. I contributed to one craft stall, but my item more couture fibre than craft market, was handed bank to me in a plastic bag, containing, unknown to me, the craft markets hand written accounting notes. For which I discarded, then was blamed for. I didn't nlook in the bag. Almost every clergy member has said or done something inappropriate in dealing with me. I did contribute, writing postcards, and donating what ever I could. But it seems jealousy clouded their judgement. I was given a gift at Christmas which implied I was incapable of caring for my own hygiene. Recently I have found my true spiritual path, and it isn't with this diocese. I will still visit occasionally but not get so entangled.
Earlier that year in 2017/18 This is most definitely worth a visit especially if you are a student of architecture, stone masonry or wood carving. At about 10am on Wednesday on request a guide will take you on a free tour of the building. Look for a man with "Rod" on his name badge - his architectural and historical knowledge is best. But he might not mosey-on-in until 11am.
Free morning tea. Leaving a donation is more than polite - the church's insurance bill is $650 A DAY! Look up near the alter - is seems there are cracks in the arches ceiling. Look for the plastic donation box. Perhaps the church should have pay per listen headset audio tours in the languages on their pamphlets.
One of Queensland's oldest churches. In its grandeur of what one would imagine a traditional church to be. Arches, wood carvings that took decades to complete, a coin collection, stained glass windows both modern and traditional, and reminders of sacrificial rituals of an era gone by. The maintenance for these structures is expensive. There is a beautiful courtyard outside to sit and contemplate. Peaceful. They have brochures in various languages but few steward guides...
Read moreThe building itself and grounds were beautiful. Unfortunately, the people there we dealt with were incredibly rude. We had tried to contact the church on multiple occasions via email and phone to explain we would be coming to take wedding photos outside of their property with no intention to enter - I wanted to make sure we would not be interrupting another wedding etc. We also asked if there was any price for using the grounds. We received no response. Checking the website we ensured the time we would be there wouldn't interrupt any service. Online it said it's public property to visit, and only if we were having our ceremony/service there did we have to full out a request form. On the day the attendants rudely tried to make us leave claiming because we had a professional photographer with us (for our wedding photos) that we would have to pay $250 to be on their grounds. We did end up paying this as it was our perfect backdrop for our themed wedding. They told us we had only an hour but since we paid we could come inside; but then we would have to leave as they would open up for mass. Despite no one being in the building at the time they repeatedly told us to be quiet (we weren't making barely any noise, all quiet and smiling for photos) and basically ushered us out within 15 minutes. While outside taking photos we consistently had staff interrupting by being in photos and some being rude to us while doing so. Then for our final group photos a gentleman of the church came and very rudely told us to leave as we had gone past our 1 hour curfew. When I say they were rude, I mean in their tone and words, not rheir request itself. There was no need for such attitude and anger towards a small party (20ppl) taking some photos in the garden outside. If I could leave less than one star for hospitality I would, but the building itself is beautiful to see. So much for the members of the church being for the community and respectful to others. For shame on how we were treated on our very special day when we did all we could to be accommodating and tried to reach...
Read moreWent here with my mother for a Tchaikovsky candlelit concert last night, was an intimate and beautiful experience and my main concern (that the acoustics would be kind of bad) was unfounded. The music sounded lovely.
The experience is very worth it, you get a beautiful performance and some light commentary from the performers on the pieces they chose and the significance of those pieces. If you book a performance with ballet dancers, you’ll be able to see the grace of their movements from much closer than you usually might, which is really special. Note that there is usually only one ballet dancer on the stage at a time (apart from the last song when all three come up on stage) and their movements are restricted due to the limited stage space.
As to the structure of the night itself, Fever staff greet you at the entrance about twenty minutes before the concert begins (assuming you’re there twenty minutes early) and escort you to the zone you’ve purchased tickets for, so there’s no clamouring and it’s all very orderly. If you’ve booked a popular performance I would recommend getting there a minimum of 40 minutes early so you get the seats closer to the front and middle as there are no allocated seats, only zones. Some people line up an hour ahead to get the front ones.
There is a water cooler and also toilets available nearby that the staff will point out to you. Other people in the audience were respectful, which I appreciated - nobody took photos or videos when they weren’t supposed to (all of the concert apart from the last song), which led to a distraction free night.
I pre purchased $10 parking tickets at the nearby secure parking facility, only across the road. I think there’s street parking too but didn’t...
