We ate here 12 months ago and had a good pub meal. Came back to top of our last night for this year's trip and what a mistake that was. We ordered a bruschetta for starters, my partner ordered the Atlantic salmon on smashed potatoes and I ordered a scotch fillet with chips, salad and pepper sauce medium rare. The first issue was the mains arriving before the starter. I was told the bruschetta was coming later. What is the go with that? Since when is it normal to have the starter after the main? I just thought there is no point arguing I just started to tuck into my meal. The first bite of the steak was dry, I knew straight away it was way over cooked. Sure enough, I cut it in half and it was well done, I returned the steak and was told they would cook me a new one as the chef thought I wanted well done. Before my replacement steak arrived my partner had finished her Salmon, this was also over cooked and on the dry side. The potatoes were not smashed they were just quartered and not very well cooked. The Bruschetta finally arrived and it was average at best. The bread was just toasted, not oven baked. The avocado they used was squeezed from a tube and not fresh, it was horrendous and the overall bruschetta was the worst I have ever been served anywhere. When my replacement steak finally arrived I cut into it and could not believe it was over cooked again, it was not a little over cooked, it was just as well done as the first. The chef (if you can call him that) has no idea on how to cook a steak. I ended up returning the meal again and getting a refund for it and the bruschetta. This was a really disappointing end to our holiday in Portland, everything else had been good. As for the atmosphere, half way through our meal they had a band set up and start playing in the dining room. The music was terrible old fashioned crap and way too loud. Not what you want when you are having a quiet meal. If you want that shit music at your venue then set it up on the bar not the dining room

A Memorable Evening at Mac's Hotel in Portland Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mac's Hotel in Portland for a brief evening stop during a work trip. After an invigorating run and workout session, I was in search of a satisfying meal and stumbled upon this hidden gem. From the moment I entered, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality, despite not having a prior reservation and being dressed in my fitness gear. The service at Mac's Hotel was truly exceptional. The staff at the door welcomed me with genuine enthusiasm, making me feel instantly comfortable. One of the staff members promptly escorted me to the bar, where I placed my order. I was pleasantly surprised when my drink arrived swiftly, and shortly after, my meal was served at my table. I opted for the classic chicken Parma, and I must say it exceeded my expectations. The portion size was generous, accompanied by the crispiest chips and a refreshing salad. The flavors were outstanding, and the attention to detail in the presentation was commendable. Despite the substantial portion, I found myself struggling to finish it all, which speaks volumes about the quality and quantity provided. As I enjoyed my meal, I couldn't help but be captivated by the breathtaking views of the Portland port through the window. The warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with the establishment's character, created a delightful dining experience. I want to extend my gratitude to the staff at Mac's Hotel for their exceptional service and for making me feel welcome. A special commendation goes to the chef and kitchen team for their culinary expertise in preparing such a wonderful meal. In conclusion, my evening at Mac's Hotel was truly memorable. The outstanding service, delectable food, and charming ambiance make it a place I eagerly look forward to returning to. Whether you're a visitor passing through or a local resident, Mac's Hotel is a must-visit destination in Portland.

This is a beautiful, historic hotel established in the mid-19th century. The interior is in excellent condition and contains many historic photos of the hotel and the wider Portland township. My wife and I are caravanning and decided to stay in Portland for a week during which time we had lunch at the hotel twice. On both occasions, we really enjoyed the meals and friendly service. There is an excellent lunchtime menu which includes meals costing from $12-15. Drinks are a little on the pricey side with a glass of wine costing $10-12 and a schooner of craft beer about the same. However, the overall value is terrific, and the surroundings are very pleasant, with views of the bay from some of the dining room tables. I'd certainly recommend this hotel for a good, cheap meal.

Recommend Macs Hotel Portland, for lunch today, unfortunately I will never return due to the extremely poor customer service. Iam not one to write reviews or publicly complain, however todays experience has forced a response. Myself and two friends stop in Macs for a quick lunch 3 meals 3 drinks one of the drinks being a black coffee… two drinks taken from the bar and ordered meals arriving promptly with in 10 minutes. ( so far so good) I asked a staff member we were waiting on a coffee when the meals arrived….. after eating lunch I asked again….. after waiting further now 45 minutes after ordering the coffee I left my table to seek a staff member…. The girl serving meals said “ I am busy serving other customers, we are not a cafe and you will have to wait!. I would ask Macs Portland to no longer offer coffee as the staff do not believe they are a cafe. I went to the bar and received a refund. After working 30 years in customer service, Iam reminded today the high standards I myself kept, training others to keep high personal standards in customer service. Im sure your wondering my response to the girl who spoke so disrespectful to to me ?? I...
