Always under Renovation but Changes are part of Life. All sydney train staff needs big round of applause 👏. You guys doing best job to move sydney on track. I recently visited Central Station and was truly impressed by the remarkable transformation it has undergone. The cleanliness of the station is immediately noticeable, with well-maintained facilities and surfaces that appear spotless. The station staff also deserve recognition for their diligent efforts in keeping the premises in such excellent condition. The new access points to the platforms have greatly improved the flow of foot traffic, making it much easier to navigate through the station. These upgrades have significantly reduced congestion during peak hours, and I found it a breeze to get to my desired platform quickly and efficiently. In addition to the general improvements, I was thrilled to see that accessibility has been taken into account with the station's recent renovations. There are ramps and elevators available throughout the station, making it convenient for wheelchair users, people with strollers, or those who have difficulty navigating stairs. Signage is also clear and well-placed, ensuring everyone can find their way with ease. Overall, Central Station has truly stepped up its game with these recent enhancements. It's not only a more comfortable and pleasant environment, but it's also much easier to navigate for people of all abilities. I highly recommend this station for anyone passing through the area or looking for a convenient and accessible transportation hub.

Pros: can get to pretty much anywhere in Sydney, or NSW for that matter, from here via local and intercity trains, plus light rail and bus connections. Gorgeous, sun-lit, airy and spacious design Easy enough to find out which platform your train departs from, and when Cons: Not a single drinking water fountain in sight The men’s washroom at the Grand Concourse consistently smells terrible No charging outlets, either in the station or on the trains. You can buy powerbanks from a vending machine though. (I chose not to deduct a star despite these cons, as really the only one I consider to be major is the washroom smell situation. 4.5/5 stars would’ve been appropriate - however, failing that, 5 stars it is lol) All in all, great train station that serves as a major transportation hub for Sydney and NSW, and one that operates pretty efficiently considering its size and scale. Try to leave 5-10 minutes between when you tap your Opal Card at the Grand Concourse to when you actually need to catch your train, as some of the platforms are a bit of a walk and a few flights of stairs away from that point (looking at you, Platforms 24 and 25). P.S. Central Station hosts a Transport Expo event every year, where they have cool steam locomotives on display, among other things. Pretty sure you can ride them too. Experiencing one in person is like coming face to face with a blast from the past. I’ve included photos and a video of one from the last expo.

Central station is the main station of the NSW and Sydney rail networks. From here, you can get to many locations across the city and state, and even interstate. Long distance trains may require pre-booking, but local and intercity services operate on the opal card system. Tram services run from the grand concourse colonade, (L1) and from the street south of the platforms (L2 and L3)

Condition of train services varies, it is reliable most days, but naturally will be much busier during rush hours, or at the time of major events, so it is usually best to check online if fast trips are critical.

The station is a huge expanse of platforms right in the middle of the city. Those serving the suburban lines date from the interwar period, when Sydney railways began electrification. Those in the country section are much more recent, late 20th C, but some are very recent, built to replace platforms that were dug up for the construction of a beautiful new underground section.

This underground section is the most recent addition to the station, and gave the under platform pedestrian area a much needed expansion. It came along with a new underground platform linking central station to the automatic metro network, due to open soon. Most of the station is open (no fumes getting trapped in here) but there is one pair of underground platforms which date from the 70s serving, (and a second secret set not in use).

The grand concourse to the east dates from the early 20th Century, with later editions. One very recent addition is a new canopy covering and area of the country and intercity concourse. This frames both views to the trains and the heritage buildings most beautifully.

Food can be found on the form of snacks from vending machine and convenience stores across the station, (the ones near edey avenue are the best) but there is cafe style eating available in the grand concourse if you're here for a little longer.

Central station hosts the annual transport heritage festival where steam locomotives and other old trains visit the first few platforms for a weekend. It also is the departure point or the Parks Elvis train, and the Indian Pacific cross continental train, plus several more heritage and specials throughout the year. This station is a favourite spot for train enthusiasts, hoping to spot these rarer events, or just enjoying the every day operations which go into operating Australia's biggest...
