The Tyrolean Provincial Museums define themselves as a place where culture and art are to be experienced. The goal is the exploration of Tyrol, its nature, history, culture, art, economy and technology, as well as the knowledge of land and people.
In 2007, the Tiroler Landesmuseen-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH was founded to document the cultural past of Tyrol together with the arsenal of the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum with the arsenal, the Tyrolean folk art museum, the Hofkirche, the Kaiserschützenmuseum and the Volksliedarchiv . Read moreLovely historic building is apparently under renovation and we were not told, when purchasing tickets at full price, that only about 1-1/2 of 4 or 5 floors were accessible, and the 1/2 being a temporary print exhibit. There was a small top floor area with a few historic pianos and the only docent/guard that we encountered (unless it was just a fellow hanging out). Granted, we knew that we were going into a small city museum and not a great museum of Europe, the place was a very odd and confusing mess. I have to admit that we left disappointed and wish that we had devoted the time to a different attraction. Please just close it until restored...two stars...
Read moreAlso on sunny days it is worthwhile to have a look at the museum. Goethe's travel to Italy exhibition will not be around all the time, but there is more to see. The Goethe exhibition is nicely done and gives a perspective on the broad interests and capabilities of the man. The basics are around (clothing, paintings, sculptures) and there is a touch of broad interest which is nice. The other parts of the museum are more standard and will not keep you for long.
