On a recent cruise, 2/24, we took a walk to the Graycliff Cigar Factory. We went to the hotel first and asked about buying cigars and the gentleman that owns it, Enrico Garzaroli, directed us through the hotel, through a nice garden and pool area in back of the hotel and onto the factory. The factory was ok, only about 2 rollers but the most disappointing part about the factory was the choices of cigars we had to choose from for purchase. The rollers out back were rolling these nice looking, big ring cigars but the only thing available to us was basically factory 2nds. They were untrimmed and if we hadn't looked closely before walking out we would have walked back to the ship with cigars with holes in them. Mr Garzaroli, nice place but don't gouge people who want to visit your factory. Make it so I want to purchase your cigars when I get stateside instead of giving us a garbage selection of cigars to choose from at your headquarters. Sadly this means the cigar factory is not a priority for you. Lastly, you won't get any discount buying a cigar at...

We were fortunate to have a former Nassau resident with us to get us there but if you come off a cruise ship and you're reasonably mobile, it's an easy walk. When you round the corner you see the walls surrounding the estate. There are two gates protruding from an opening. Walk through.. This is a lounge where you can enjoy cocktails, Champagne, fine spirits or Wine. Not just any wine, this is the home of the 3rd largest wine collection in existence. Over 275,000 bottles are nestled safely in the wine cellar. A wine cellar that was initially a dungeon... In 1740 the mansion it was built by Captain John Howard Graysmith, a Pirate. In true fashion with a pirates life for me in mind, the Graycliff hotel is a 5 star restaurant, a chocolate maker, a Cigar factory and a destination that can take up an afternoon at port before you realize...
Read moreAn excellent gem, the Graycliff was very different from my expectations. It was a little hard to find with no data plan / map, walking up this road and down the other, but it ended up being a great destination.
The compound is not at all what I imagined. Frankly this gem looks a little rough around the outside edges. I wasn’t sure I had the right place. After all, it’s hundreds of years old… and the past couple years have been tough for the tourism business.
However, the cigars are great. The outdoor lounge is comfortable, private, shaded, with fans. An excellent place to unwind.
The pools looked ideal. Perfectly clean and maintained. Private and empty. I wish I could have taken a swim.
A lot of cruisers say Nassau is a “stay-on-the-boat” port; The Graycliff changes that completely. It’ll be one of my favorites from here on out.
Glad I walked the first time, but will be taking a...
