Don’t listen to the people posting bad reviews on this. The world is full of imbeciles and we need to ignore them for the most part. Except for this. The reason the Museum is in Spanish is because you’re in Bolivia and they speak Spanish. You didn’t get asked 500, you got asked 15, you probably mistranslated (quince-15 and quinientos is 500). Some people have complained it’s a room with photos and you have to read… So you are upset for visiting a Museum? Also you don’t really need photos to prove you went here, I’m sure your friends and family will believe you when you said you visited a museum whilst travelling. It’s easy to match the photos with the English text you are given, it’s all simply numbered.

It’s such an interesting read if you choose to. It touches on the cultural significance and history of Coca, all the way...

Museo de la coca is a quite simple museum about the history of the coca plant and it's usage. Visitors get a little book in their preferred language as a guide through the museum. The main part of the museum are pictures and descriptions, but also some artifacts of coca based medicine and a detailed installation about cocaine production. One part wants to show the negative sides of cocaine, but it lacks of accuracy. Presenting pictures of (heroine) junkies with needles in their arms is a totally different story. I would have hoped to see a more modern and interactive presentation of the history of coca. The entry fee is 15 Bolivianos (April 2016) and you get a peace of coca liquorice at...

The museum itself is a joke. I therefore chose not to pay the admission, and instead visited the bar upstairs. It was happy hour, so for about $5 USD I was served 2 glasses of the bright green (and delicious) coca wine, Vin Mariani. Very powerful, so much so that they won’t sell you a bottle to take home. I imagine it’s similar to the stuff that Pope got obsessed with. And then you can poke your head in the museum for free, as a patron of the bar :) At least there’s a cool cheesy selfie spot... Ps. Their candies are solid and actually make a huge difference when trekking or climbing at high altitudes. Much better than the coca candies sold elsewhere in the markets.

Very small museum. Overall fairly interesting and informative, but the majority of the time you are just reading a book about the history of cocaine. The pictures on the wall and the weird manikins do very little to add to the experience. Thankfully it was only 15 Bs. because any more would not be worth it. One of the best parts of the whole time there is the Coca candy they give you which numbs your mouth and wakes you up a bit.

Small little museum that was interesting in the way of information. They gave out Coca candy and I ended up buying a small bag from family back home to taste. They had plenty of other gifts of coca to buy too. Most items were text or photos that were copyrighted so photos were not permitted. The little hall way up to the museum had vendors. Bathrooms available for free.
