We stayed here two nights, after flying in from Argentina and before leaving overland for Peru.|This is a beautiful hotel, full of character and hidden corners. There's a nice roof deck on floor three and good views of the city from the breakfast area on floor six. A small but high quality museum area is located on the ground floor.|Our room was clean and tidy, well finished and had some nice touches to give a local feel. The shower flow was really powerful and heat control excellent. The bed was comfy and there was a safe with clear instructions.|Breakfast was superb, especially the local bread, delicious fruit and tasty veg to accompany the eggs. Coca tea and drinking water were also available - useful at this altitude!|Staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive.|The location is good - close to attractions, a cable car station, eateries and local stalls etc.|The only small negative was at dinner, when we were served the wrong dish; the replacement was delayed and the soup starter and mains came at the same time so the main went cold. However the bar man was very apologetic and gave us a free drink. |We had a great time here and would...

This hotel does all their best to rip you off, claiming to use the illegal and unofficial US$ exchange rate. For e.g., if you book a US$100 room in any other hotels in La Paz, you pay around BOB 700, whether you pay by cash or card. This hotel? They rip you off charging you BOB 1,200 (equivalent of US$174). If you pay by card, you will see a 174 bucks on your bill - when you booked for 100 bucks only - what a joke. All they’re after is to extract as much US$ as possible from tourists.
Disgusting smelly and noisy rooms, especially no drainage in shower. Try to shower, and the soap water fills up to your ankle. Yuk. Squeaky wooden doors won’t let you fall asleep.
There are plenty of more affordable, welcoming, HONEST hotels nearby. Otherwise, I recommend you to stay in more peaceful and lower altitude areas like Calacoto, where hotels are much more safe, clean, and again, HONEST.

Read moreI have mixed feelings. The hotel is centrally located, and there are some great hotel staff who were helpful, and the hotel's restaurant and waiters/waitresses were wonderful. The rooms are OK and the hotel atmospheric. | A few things were bothersome:| 1. We asked for neighboring rooms for us and our kids and this request was made months ago, so I wish they honored our request. They did not, for both our initial check-in, and our subsequent visit after we did Uyuni. | 2. The last person who checked us out claimed that my wife's make-up had rubbed onto the bathroom towel, and as a result they were unusable. These make-ups always wash off, but they charged us $20 to replace them right away (they did not even attempt to put it in laundry). This is something we've never encountered ever before, and seems like a scam to make a quick buck (we even offered to leave a CC # so they can charge it after they at least give laundry a try, but the person at the front insisted on cash upfront). It clearly wasn't worth a fight, so he got my $20, but...
