Church of San Francisco de La Paz, is located on Av. Mcal Santa Cruz esq. Sagarnaga, mestizo baroque style, construction start 1774. The interior has a floor plan of three naves with a rectangular apse, covered with a central barrel vault, and side domes. The dome of the transept, with four windows, exhibits a delicate decoration that is especially enriched in the pendentives. The central portal, built around 1790, is divided into two bodies and three streets. And the crown a small finish also splendidly carved. A trilobed arch gives access to the inside of the enclosureIt. Is decorated by eight large Solomonic columns distributed equally in high and low art. The lower ones rest on monstrous heads, in the spandrels there are dolphin heads and in the upper part mermaids linked by the waist, the side covers have Indian faces, with the head touched with headband...

This Grand Basilica build up in actual shape throughout 18th and 19th century it's one of the most visited such edifice both by locals (being around city center) and tourists (as it's adjacent to Sagarnaga Street, the paradise of backpackers and mountain climbers). Whether you're into Catholicism or not, the construction remains very impressive and is a good opportunity to admire the so-called 'Andean Baroque'...

- "Warum sid in Indígena-Bildern gotische Stilelemente dominant?"

A beautiful church in the centre of la paz. There is an entrance fee for the museum next door and you combine it with the church. We were not able to get to the ground floor of this Basilica. But you can have a view from the upper back of this building. If you are in la paz this is a nice thing to do. Takes around 1 hour and you get a guide.
