My group of 5 just finished the new Legacy of Shadows room. As an avid escape group (having completed over 90 rooms) this was a MASSIVE disappointment for Ruze.
A while back, we completed the 3 existing project rooms and absolutely loved them. We were very excited to come and try this room. This excitement was short lived when we found out this was a totally electronic room with an iPad and no human contact with a game master available. This was not indicated anywhere on the website. If we knew this we would not have booked (and paid in full).
Before entering, we were not given any safety briefing/room backstory. In a sense, we were thrown into the lions den blind with our life-saving iPad. The room itself was boring. There were no physical props, locks, or interactive hands-on puzzles. Everything in the room was to be completed on the tablet (riddles, instructions, puzzles, and solutions were all done using it). Most solutions were number or word based and did not utilize hands-on engagement with the room (moving things around/using locks/etc.). We were not even provided with a calculator or whiteboard to do repetitive math puzzles with 8-digit numbers.
The hint feature was also frustrating. When asking for a hint it would first give a very basic instruction that was given in the initial riddle. Our group was already doing what the hint said to find the solution. The hints lacked any sense of personalization to our experience. The hints would end up giving the answers with no explanation for the solution.
This room looked as if it had been thrown together by ChatGPT with a $20 budget. The lack of human interaction made this experience disappointing and frustrating. We felt on our own and this was a big disappointment for Ruze who usually have such stellar, engaging, and fun experiences. This one didn’t even have side quests which has been one of our favourite parts of coming to Ruze.
If this room stays, this digital feature should be indicated online so customers do not waste their money. We suggest that Ruze changes this room to reflect what they are known for: interactive and engaging escape...
Read moreWe did this escape room on Family Day and we have done about 15+ prior. This was definitely one of the best escape rooms we have ever experienced. The owners were very friendly and humble. The puzzles were amazing and they even had side bonus puzzles that my daughter took full charge of. We escaped with 12 seconds left but did have to ask for a few hints along the way (which is the norm for us). It is definitely a room that you have to divide and conquer or you will likely run out of time if you have a smaller group like ours. I would almost do it again just to work on the puzzles I didn't get a chance to work on myself. The 4 of us all agreed it was one of the best escape rooms we have ever experienced. We can't wait to see what they do next! If I had to give any feedback it would just be to get a louder walkie as it was a bit hard to hear (not a big issue whatsoever) and to perhaps give a tiny bit more time in between bookings (even just 10 more minutes in between). Great job guys! Super creative and so much fun! We will...
Read moreAn overall great experience! It was me and my friends' first time doing an escape room (4 of us). It definitely tested our patience and collaboration with one another haha.
The puzzles were creative and fun. If I didn't understand a certain puzzle, I found that one of my friends could conceptualize it in a different way. Communication and spreading out are definitely key!
3 important things to note:
Ruze is located on the lower/basement level. This complex is shared between them and 2 other businesses.
There's a small parking lot in the back. I was able to arrive first and snag a spot. But one of my girlfriend's had to park in the municipal lot on John St North (about a 2 minute walk away). She said the parking is free only after 6pm and on weekends. So if you're planning on taking several cars on a weekday, I would definitely make a booking after 6pm.
We were able to get $2 off per person because our group had 4 ppl. But if we had 2 more people (for a group of 6), we would've gotten...
