The Pioneer — Attraction in Calgary

We had such a fantastic experience with The Pioneer and are blown away at the extent they went to help us out of our stressful situation. Not only was it a beautiful, modern venue to get married in, but they did everything they could to make our day joyful and amazing. We are eternally grateful.

We got married in January 2021 amid the peak of the pandemic. Due to our horrific issues working with our original venue (Skyline in Calgary - stay far, far away), we had to start looking for backup venues less than two weeks before our wedding as we weren't being provided with basic info and were being actively misled. As a result, we reached out to Mia at The Pioneer, and within an hour of contact she was giving us a virtual tour of their beautiful space, provided a quote and gave us all the info we needed to put our minds at ease. We explained the situation we were in; they did everything they could to help us and were incredibly flexible. They answered all our questions, provided decor, set up our music, and acted as coordinators for our small ceremony on a very short notice.

On our wedding day, we showed up and everything was better than we could have anticipated. Mia was a welcoming host and made sure we were taken care of, and the ceremony went seamlessly. We had our wedding ceremony at the Garret and a cocktail-style wedding reception at the Pioneer in February 2024 and everything was perfect. Great communication and support leading up to our big day and execution on the day of was flawless.

Both venues have such great vibes on their own that we really didn't need to do much from a decor perspective, and opted to just enhance the buildings' incredible features with lighting, florals and candles - though the possibilities are truly endless. We received feedback from our guests (many from out of town) that the location was great as it was easily accessible and it was fun to be right in the action on Stephen Avenue.

The service from the SugarWater team on the bar was excellent - though we had a crowd of big drinkers there was never a line at the bar and our guests loved not only the craft cocktails but the really thoughtful selection of wines and local beers and seltzers.
