It is the work of Louis-Philippe Hébert and was unveiled in 1895 in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the city's founding.

What you see is a bronze of Maissoneuve in period attire, holding up the King of France's flag while he looks up towards Notre Dame Cathedral.
