The central market is a great place to buy fresh seafood and just around the. Corner, a small farmers market to buy produce. The clams were very fresh. $2500 CLP a kilo. Mussels was $1000CLP a kilo. It is well worth to bring it back the Airbnb apartment to have some great seafood. One can also get a great deal Monday to Friday with fixed menu meals from $4,000 to $6,000CLP. There are many businesses that are closed permanently like most businesses not only in Santiago but all cities from my experience traveling the world. The pandemic has really closed many businesses for good. I highly recommend coming to the central market and walk down the side street to see the hundreds of sidewalk merchants selling many odds and ends all made in China.

The Central market is a nice place to see and try what the Chileans eat as locals. However, it has become a tourist trap, so you have to be careful where to eat and where buy your groceries there. Avoid at all cost all those big restaurantes and the ones have people calling you, they are not worth it. Spend a few minutes walking around all the market until you reach the real restaurants locasl eat, you will identified them as they are crowded with locals, small spaces, no people calling you, no big names or decorations but the real tasty traditional (and cheaper food). I end up eating at a restaurant called Bahamondez, try the Viagra there!

Lovely central fish and sea food market (the air is filled with seafood smell). Its a tourist place with plenty of visitors and tourists around. Centrally located. Bit congested and low on hygiene in some places but overall a neat and clean place. Be careful of pick pockets and keep your valuables in the front pockets. Also, avoid the central restaurants as they are expensive. Local restaurants are preferably better and offer good local fresh stuff. Food is tasty and well prepared. As in all tourist places, prices are inflated so look for decent bargains. All in all a good place to visit and enjoy the local music and atmosphere!👍👌

The place has interesting architecture (but very small), lots of fish stalls around and several seafood restaurants with incredibly aggressive waiters who really really want customers. It also feels really empty because many of the stores seem to be closed. Overall it kind of gives off a very dodgy vibe. You can't really see the place in peace because you're either being harassed by someone who wants you to eat in their restaurant or just being worried about getting robbed. There are other places in the city where you can get really good ceviche. I wouldn't recommend coming here as a tourist.

In all honesty I may have needed to rate it at two stars. When I was going to the market I have thought about other great bustling colorful markets in South America and Asia. It is a fish market and fish market only. Every single stand offers exactly the same selection. So if you would like to experience a fish market see two stands exactly and leave - there is nothing past yhat except identical stands. Since reviews said that food there is great we have tried. Beware! Everything is salted to extreme, fish is not good quality and they even managed to ruin mashed potatoes.

If you want to know real Chileans and feel the spirit of Chile, you should definitely visit this place. In addition to the huge variety of the freshest seafood on the shelves, there are also many restaurants where these seafood products are cooked. There are a lot of tourists and sellers can cheat so better buy fish where the price is indicated already. Here it will be immediately cleaned and cut for you. The market is open 7 days a week, but on Friday and weekend there are a lot of people.
