For a better managed collection of religious artefacts, you can visit the nearby Museum Of The Holy House Of Mercy (MOP5 per person), which is directly on Senado Square, not 2 minutes walk from this museum. Here you will find older and more important artefacts as well as a booklet to help you identify the pieces are you are looking at. Tip: both of these museums can be comfortably visited in 15-20 minutes.
