I cannot express how much I loved my experience at Donde Olano. I went twice during my visit to Cartagena and had excellent food, drink, and service both times. The staff is warm, kind, and knowledgeable about each menu item. On top of the fabulous service you can tell that the management team and the owner has a passion for their business which makes the experience as a customer ever more enjoyable.

If you are feeling like a glass or bottle of wine - this is the place for you. The wine selection is grand (which, from my experience in Cartagena, I found to be rare - most places didn't have much wine offerings). I think it would be a great place for a romantic date, a business meeting, a fancy dinner with friends, or a nice outing with your family.

The first night my friends and I shared appetizers (calamares rebozados con mayonesa and quiche con queso y cebolla). Each appetizer was plated beautifully and tasted heavenly! My main dish the first visit was Blanquette de Salmón and it was to DIE for! The salmon melted in my mouth and was bursting with flavor. I never wanted my meal to end. The second visit I ordered Boeuf Bourguignon. This meal also melted in my mouth and I couldn't believe how delicious it was. Within one bite you can tell there is a lot of time and preparation that goes into the Boeuf Bourguignon. Honestly, I think you could get anything on this menu and be very happy with the outcome.

Underwhelming and overrated!

Ordered the fish fritters, fillet mignon and capriosca cocktail. We made reservations at the busy hour of the evening.

Unfortunately our dining experience went down hill the minute we tried the fish fritters. They seemed as if they were bought from frozen food section of your grocery store if that is what you like. They were dry and overcooked.

First time I’ve experienced a fillet mignon that was tenderized with what appeared to be a hammer, asked for a medium rare and got a well done, drowned in a heavy sauce with bacon. Served with fries , prefer mashed with vegetables.

Questioned the server on the cut of the steak and she insisted it was a fillet mignon, although she acknowledged is was over cooked and did nothing about it.

Last but not least, the cocktail was barely filled to the middle with heaping ice cubes resting on the rim of the glass, the server was not happy I pointed this out to her.

Poor service, poor food. I've been visiting this place for over a decade and never expected such difference. Overcooked lobster scraps (see picture) literally 5-6 bites tops. 8 shrimps in the Gabo shrimps platter, little wine selection by the cup, ordered an appetizer which never arrived (luckily wasn't charged). The server never smiled, rushed us to order arguing that it could take 2 hours for food to arrive should we not order immediately. They took too long to pick up the dirty dishware, but roamed around unaware. They don't have an alternative to side dishes, if you have any allergies or food restrictions they can't offer other than French fries. At a high-end place!!!! In summary, I will never come back again Cartagena has many new magnificent places and this old outdated place is not enough for any foodie. Almost forgot!
