As one of our daily trips from Prague, Hradec Kralove surprised us in a good and bad way. We really enjoyed the visit at White Tower. It was no wait for a ticket, employees were really friendly and the whole experience was elevating. I made wonderful pictures yet tried to avoid the parking lot. Here comes the bad news. I really don't understand why the square and the street before and around the most beautiful sites in the center are filled WITH CARS!?! Please just find them another place in the city. The square is really beautiful and unfortunately uglified with cars. If it's a market like any other Czech town, especially around the main statue in front of the Cathedral, it would be much more appealing and beautiful. Someone must write a letter to the mayor (with a petition from the residents) because this...

In addition, exhibitions and cultural events are held in the tower, a great tourist attraction is the unique glass tower model, the bell mentioned above, or the original clock machine built by Josef Božek in 1829.
Originally a Renaissance tower (once also nicknamed "New"), it gained its official name due to the clear color of the Hořice Sandstone from which it´s built. It was completed after 22 years of construction in 1589. Interesting fact: Augustin's bell, hanging on the 4th floor of the tower in 1581, 169 cm high and 206 cm wide, is the second largest after Zikmund bell in Prague St....
Read moreI have been coming to Hradec Kralove for years for business and never had a chance to visit this tower partly because it was under renovation for quite some time.
The tower is in the middle of the 11th century town square. It was lovingly and expertly restored into a worthy attraction.
The view at the top is breathtaking, you can see the town of Hradec Kralove and surrounding areas laid out beautifully in a 360-degree panorama. On the way up the tower you will see th the bell and the cleverly restored platforms, a lot of thoughts went into the design of this place. A thoroughly...
