InterContinental Frankfurt, an IHG Hotel — Attraction in Frankfurt

I would rate this hotel as the lowest quality of all the Intercontinental hotels I have stayed at. Poor cleaning end inattentive staff. The hotel seems to rely on the fact that they can easily inflate the price during the periods while there are fairs going on in the city. We were traveling as a group of 4. Two others arrived the day before me and when they next morning went to the lounge to get breakfast the were told that breakfast was not included (even though it was) so they had to pay if they wanted to get breakfast. They ended up going out to eat breakfast somewhere else. I had to complain to 3 different people from the hotel before they finally did anything (thank you Felipe for taking the responsibility to actually do something). And we were never compensated for the inconvenience. As the lounge was quite poor I asked the staff to just cancel the lounge access for the reminder of the stay. When I then got back to the hotel I had a message saying that our new Club cards were ready! I other words the person in the reception had not understood a word of what I was saying. (This was also one of the employees who did not do anything about the missing breakfast). One person (a manager also misinformed me about the actual price of the breakfast). If you do choose to get lounge access you have to get there early as the do only replenish some of the items so the selection ends up being really bad if you are not one of the first ones arriving. Lastly the cleaning was almost non existing. Empty cups, bottles and trash was left around the room. In the shower they didn’t remove the empty bottles of shower gel and shampoo and the room was full of dust. I noticed picking up a black shirt from the bathroom floor and it was completely covered in dust. All in all I felt like I ended up paying for a lot of things that were definitely not delivered. Have been staying here since past 15-20 years and we had started liking its old fashioned rooms and their courteous staff over the time. But unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the hotel in our last stay. Being a loyal elite member of the IHG group, i wasn’t expecting this treatment at this hotel! The day we checked in, we arrived a little early than the check in time and we were told to wait since no rooms were empty or ready. We had already applied for a request of early check in and they had agreed to provide it to us if any rooms were empty. A couple hours later, i was told by their receptionist that a couple of rooms were ready but they couldn’t give it to us since it wasn’t their check in time and if we still insisted, they would need to charge an early check-in fee of 65€. This is totally unethical on behalf of the hotel to trouble their guests like this! Any good reputed hotel would gladly offer rooms to the guests if they arrived a little earlier and if they had ready rooms available and not be greedy for money! Such an attitude is not at all appreciated from a reputed brand like Intercontinental! So we have decided to let go of this hotel in the future and choose better properties which are available at better rates in Frankfurt. The structure is located in a strategic area in front of the river and very near the city center that, you can easily reach walking in about 20 minute or with a very short ride of taxi that, at the time of the present review was about 7,50€. This is a definitely plus,.

The building is unfortunately old, too old, rooms are in pure eighties style, and are also quite narrow and with queen bed. Toilets are too little, and here the time left an even bigger sign of its passage.

The staff is really helpful and present, but this, is a standard at intercontinental, and honestly is what we expect from this level of chain so it's not really a surprise as, it's a given.

Wifi it's quite poor, definitely slow and tent to fell down in the pick hours.

Overall I am quite disappointed, being in the highest ranks of IHG rewards, i have to say that this property due to the facility condition is really far by what can be accepted in 2016 and, must go trough a deep renovation asap. For who is familiar with the Intercontinental world, I would say that this hotel is very similar to the Nairobi's one.

Personally I do not recommend the stay as its nothing more than average and, for the requested price, there are better...
