Hamburg Hauptbahnhof is dismal! There was nothing good about my recent experience. It started with the S-Bahn from the airport, sign- posting is terrible or non- existing, lots of confused travellers who simply don't know where they are supposed to be going. At HHB it continued with simply bad sign posting, I give you an example, I was led by a sign to the DB Reisezentrum..it led me outside where I had to walk for what felt like miles! Eventually I found this grubby shop-front of said Reisezentrum which was locked! Only by asking a policeman (their equally grubby station is next door), did I find it inside. Of course, I should have known, telepathically, that the main entrance is inside the building (in hindsight this was logical of course). When I finally spoke to an adviser, he drolly said 'oh yeah, those doors are only open when it's warmer'! Well, that's alright then for the weary traveller who's desperate to find help by a human person! Don't worry about putting a simple sign up explaining that! I'm clearly still annoyed about the experience, and there's far too much to tell, so I'll try and summarise..
Bad signage Not enough escalators or non working different and therefore confusing ticket-machines People at info desk not friendly, they were bored and grumpy and only grudgingly did their job Very busy place, people walking all over the place, kreuz und quer, das reinste Slalomlaufen Great distances to cover, man muss gut zu Fuß sein Only one weird toilet center which should be jolly free or at least clean trains and train times unreliable staff at DB Reisezentrum not very friendly, (the ticket giver was a bit condescending), but at least after a bit of jostling with the man behind the counter, I came away with a semi - satisfactory plan for my onward journey (only 3.5 hours delay to it!) Very grubby, shabby and run down (one entrance to the station was like walking down the steps into some dark and dingey, grubby and graffitied dungeon, again, which could only be found by asking) too many outlets, food, shops etc., it just adds to the confusing hum drum of the place, I really didn't fancy stopping!
And I have to do it all again in a week's...

Read moreOne of my worst experience ever. My train to Dennmark has been canceled. All of them. DB dont care. No alternative bus. I was in damn Hamburg all night. Old man at desk inside Reisezentrum has been rude to me and other people. People there are weird in general. Train station is very bad build. To go on another platforms you must go upside and downside. Platforms are split into four sections what are closely connected so you there is chaos to find your train. Trains stay close to each other. Tickets machines are horrible. No international tickets, full of glitches also. No electronic portals to find your international train or other company. We in Prague have have better systems. I like old buildings but this one not much. But its decent and only my opinion. Station is full of annoying beggars and crackheads around. Police are just there in day . In night you dont see them. There is a supermarket, overpriced ATMs where you can take euros from, tourist centrum, book shop etc. I hope the old conductor and his female colleague will read this: In 12.6. Around 16:00 pm on platform 11? you were two very helpfull and polite people there. I hope DB give you some...
