The Hamburg House of Photography is located in one of the two buildings of the Deichtorhallen. The Deichtorhallen have been build between 1911 and 1914 as Market Halls on the Ground of the former Berlin Railway Station (the counterpart of the Hamburg Railway Station in Berlin). Beside the House of Photograpy, the second building contains the Hall of Contemporary Art. A third Building is located outside in the Wilhelmsburg suburb. The art stock in photography is mainly based on the collection of F. C. Gundlach as well of the Photographic Archive of the Spiegel Magazine. Beside this, exhibitions of well known artists are held. A regular event each year also is the Visual Leader exhibition. No Doubt, photography is art. But sometimes I'm in doubt if everything might be art :-) I would recommend to check out the artist and his works first or to get a guide. Sometimes it's necessary to watch the Art with background...

They are having problems with the reservations. The photography museum took our tickets but didn‘t let us enter because there were too many people in the Museum. They said we didn‘t have a reservation but didn‘t give us a time to come back. I paid for the museum so I’m not sure why I have to forfeit a ticket I paid for. I should have at least gotten my money back. Perhaps this is a Corona related issue, but I really don‘t know. Hate that I wasted the money for two tickets but never got to...

A super experience not oly because of the art exposed but also because you can have a very nice day if you like art/modern art. The only thing bothering is the fact that the guides in the gallery itself take alot of time explaining and you dont have sometimes the chance to see it properly so you have to come back after they are done. They have english audio options so you will understand what the author of the art meant with his work. It is a very big space so you need at least 3 or 4h to...

I had wanted to go to this venue already in 2018 but didn't manage to go. So this year it was on the top of my list. As an avid photographer since my childhood I have always been fascinated bytes photographs and how they were taken the story behind so to speak. The photos on exhibition here are world class and very well presented. We were lucky to arrive fairly early in the morning because there was a long queue forming when we left. There is an excellent gift shop and generous toilet facilities.

An amazing gallery, my favourite in Hamburg. It looks so good, that I caught myself on a thought, that the interior was more interesting for me than the exposition. It's art in the art. It's possible to buy one full ticket for two different expositions. I was surprised, that the ticket works 4 weeks. Both buildings have a small cafeteria, but the one in the Photo museum looks like a restaurant. If you are walking with backpacks or prefer to use a garderobe - you will need 1 euro for locker.

An impressive fusion of industrial architecture and contemporary art 👏🏼 The place oozes atmosphere — the vast, raw halls provide the perfect setting for powerful and large-scale exhibitions. During my summer visit, I experienced the Katharina Grosse exhibition, which was vibrant, physical, and emotionally intense. Everything comes together: the art, the architecture, the light, and the scale. An absolute must for anyone interested in art and architecture in Hamburg 👌🏼
