The Hamburg House of Photography is located in one of the two buildings of the Deichtorhallen. The Deichtorhallen have been build between 1911 and 1914 as Market Halls on the Ground of the former Berlin Railway Station (the counterpart of the Hamburg Railway Station in Berlin). Beside the House of Photograpy, the second building contains the Hall of Contemporary Art. A third Building is located outside in the Wilhelmsburg suburb. The art stock in photography is mainly based on the collection of F. C. Gundlach as well of the Photographic Archive of the Spiegel Magazine. Beside this, exhibitions of well known artists are held. A regular event each year also is the Visual Leader exhibition. No Doubt, photography is art. They said we didn‘t have a reservation but didn‘t give us a time to come back. I paid for the museum so I’m not sure why I have to forfeit a ticket I paid for. The only thing bothering is the fact that the guides in the gallery itself take alot of time explaining and you dont have sometimes the chance to see it properly so you have to come back after they are done.
