Ticket cost and opening timings 👇👇 This is the second largest Baroque Palace in Europe after Versailles. Built in 1720, The palace was heavily damaged by bombings during WWII, with only a few rooms escaping complete destruction. The city decided to rebuild it in the late 1940s, and the painstaking process to restore the intricate stucco, frescoes and wall panels took about 60 years. Location : Baroque Palace, Mannheim Tickets : 9 Euros for Adults and 22.50 Euro for family. Opening times : 10am - 5pm on all days except Mondays. Please note that the sale of tickets stop at 4pm. I enjoyed it so much! The experience starts on the sidewalk looking in. The court yard is impressive and the palace just feels, homey, if it makes sense. The entrance was 9 euros and I received an electronic guide in English which was surprisingly amazing. The information was interesting and it was read in an engaging way. Also, it was usually accompanied by baroque music. Before starting the 'tour' you need to leave your bag at a locker room, so make sure you have a 1 or 2 euro coin. You will get it back when you leave. Inside the palace you can enjoy both the rooms and the architecture, but also pieces of furniture and artifacts. There are several rooms, and several floors. One of the rooms is an interactive music room. You get a pair of headphones and can plug them in at different stations and listen to music and explanations. However - the explanations are in German. I didn't see an option to hear it in English. It is just the right size - enough to see without getting tired or bored, and leaving wanting more. At the end, where you bought the ticket you can buy some post cards and souvenirs - very reasonably priced.

Erbaut vom Kurfuerst Carl Theodor, der sich mit Mannheim und seinen moderen Ideen, welche die Staedtebauer heutigerzeit noch in den Schatten stellen, ein Denkmal fuer die Ewigkeit schuf. Die Quadrate (Vorbild vieler amerikanischer Staedte), 20-30 breite Straßenzuege, das erste Kanalsystem unter der Innenstadt europaweit. Damit lockte er an die Stadt die zwischen Rhein und Neckar liegt (Schifffahrt-damals und auch noch heute das Verkehrsmittel Nr.1) und seinem zweitgroesten Binnenhafen (nur Hamburg ist groeßer!) Industrie (Autoerfinder Carl Benz mit seiner Frau Berta, Bulldog Lanz, Straßenbau Voegele, BBC, Motorenwerke, Großkraftwerk - Kohlekraftwerk -) Dichter (Schiller), Denker (spaeter Heinz Haber), Musiker (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; seine Geliebte Constanze lebte und wurde in F2 geboren). Der Kurfuerst war seiner Zeit weit voraus, stellte als erster im gesamten Stadtgebiet Toiletten auf (das die Bevoelkerung nicht die Notdurft irgendwo verrichret...heute sind sie leider alle verschwunden (?) und nach Mannheim war fuer ihn noch lange nicht Schluß. Nach Mannheim ging er nach Bayern und setzte sein Werk fort. Wir haben derzeit als Mannheim eine bluehende Musikszene (Soehne Mannheims und viele andere) und unsere Adler Mannheim, die beim Eishockey seit Jahrzehnten fuer Furore sorgen. Monnem ist eine lebenswerte Stadt und nicht nur grau, wie sie Neider gerne darstellen. Schaut Euch den Waldpark, die Reisinsel, den Luisenpark oder den Kaefertaler Wald an!

Jedno słowo doskonale określa ten pałac - ogromny. 440 metrowa fasada robi wrażenie, ale to co widzimy to tylko bardzo uproszczona w formie rekonstrukcja. Historia pałacu rozpoczęła się dokładnie w 1720 r., kiedy to książę elektor położył podeń kamień węgielny. Projektowali go francuscy architekci, budowa zaś trwała czterdzieści lat. Tu warto wspomnieć, że wzniesiono go na gruzach XVII wiecznej twierdzy zniszczonej przez Francuzów w czasie wojny o sukcesję Palatynatu w 1688r. Wielka rezydencja nie służyła zbyt długo książętom elektorom, bo oto w 1778r. książę Karol Teodor, odziedziczywszy wprzódy sukcesję bawarską przeniósł się był z całym dworem do Monachium. Okres świetności pałacu przypadł znowu na początek XIX w., kiedy mieszkała w nim księżna Stéphanie de Beauharnais, córka cesarzowej Józefiny i pasierbica samego Napoleona I. Ojczym wyswatał ją za żonę księcia Badenii-Wirtenbergii, Karola Fryderyka wyjątkowego hulaki i słynnego brzydala. Stéphanie, owdowiała bardzo wcześnie i przeniosła się do Mannheim. Tu otaczała się ludźmi kultury i sztuki zmieniając monstrualny pałac w modnym stylu cesarstwa a później klasycyzmu. W 1918 r. pałac stał się własnością państwa, a w czasie II wojny światowej został zniszczony podczas alianckich nalotów na Niemcy. Po wojnie odbudowano go niezbyt starannie. Dach mansardowy, na ten przykład, nad najstarszą częścią pałacu, odtworzono dopiero 2007r. Dziś mieści się tu Uniwersytet, a w kilku salach urządzono muzeum. Warto jeszcze wspomnieć, że w kaplicy zamkowej, między 1777 i 1778 rokiem grywał na organach sam Wolfgang Amadeusz Mozart.

Stunning Baroque palace is overwhelming with its gigantic size and vibrant colors! Unfortunately I was not able to visit the museum as it closes at 5 PM (frankly that is quite early) therefore I could only appreciate the outside courtyard and its statues. As part of the palace is occupied by university, the place was super quiet on a Sunday afternoon. Small seating area was located at the main entrance to the complex. Visited in June 2022.

I am not sure what excites everyone so much..there is literally nothing original in the building. The whole thing is built new and most of the furniture is barely original. If you want to see a real palace, then go and see Schönbrunn Palace in Austria. As with many German small museums, they tried to make a story without much content inside. Outside it looks cool!
