One of 3 remaining old city gates, this one marks the western border of Old Town. It stands as an impressive and imposing gateway between Stachus and the west end of Neuhauser Straße (a large pedestrian street). The gate structure that stands today is a simplified, mostly rebuilt Gothic version of the original 14th century gate. While it may not bear much resemblance to it's original form, I feel it still has elegance, culture, and history. It also serves as a stunning anchor to Stachus. Additionally, it features interesting details, such as gargoyle-like statues depicting famous Munich citizens. If you're near Stachus or Marienplatz, I recommend...

One of the old gates of Munich. It’s a start of a nice pedestrian way. Nice signs on the gate. On sides of the gate there are some words that not sure what they mean. Inside the gate there is a nice sculpture of 3 musicians that based on the words under it, in Deutsch, it came from Marienplatz to here. It also says this pedestrian was sort of planned by a famous architect, Prof Herbert Jensen.

I wish: There was a sign with some general information about the gate in English. & More benches to sit next...
