A restaurant where there's clearly a policy of defrauding guests from other countries. One of the worst experiences I've ever had. The restaurant was recommended to us by a tour guide, and so, on Friday, September 19 2025, seven of us had reservations for 9:00 pm. Once seated, we ordered what seemed to be the local special: seven pork knuckles with french fries, seven 1-liter mugs of beer, and four bottles of water. Finally, seven grappas (schnaps). The waitress who served us was very helpful and flirted, without exaggerating, with a group of seven Italians who just wanted to have some fun and eat well. From a culinary standpoint, the seven pork knuckles were good enough, but not up to our expectations. The worst part was the bill. The mentioned waitress showed us the bill ONLY ON HER PDA, for a total of €400.00, a surprisingly round bill with no decimal points. We were initially a bit shocked by how much was the bill campared to we'd ordered, and when we asked to print the receipt, the waitress told us it would be printed ONLY AFTER PAYMENT. So we paid in cash and left a €20 tip to the waitress for a total of €420.00. However, something didn't add up, and before leaving, we asked for a receipt to be printed. Once we had it, we verified that the resulting bill, based on our purchases, was €343.00. We immediately demanded clarification, to which the same waitress attempted to resolve the issue by refunding us €40. At that point, we became very angry and demanded to speak to the owner, but we were only able to speak to a blond waiter. We felt that he was pretending to understand, but that he was clearly in agreement with the illegal overcharging policy adopted by the waitress at that establishment. Tempers were flaring, and, as we demanded, they refunded us the full difference (including the tip), and we left, threatening to call the police, which probably would have been the right thing to do. Munich is a beautiful and hospitable city, and this made the behavior we experienced inside this restaurant all the more serious and inappropriate. I recommend carefully avoiding places like this, where, beneath a confidential appearance and seemingly attentive service, lies a clear way of defrauding...
Read moreI had the pleasure of visiting an outstanding restaurant in Munich, and it has quickly become a favourite. Having dined there three times, it's become a staple on each visit to the city. What stands out immediately is the exceptionally friendly staff, who are not only well-versed in English but also in other European languages. Their helpfulness extends beyond language skills, as they are keen to offer menu recommendations and provide advice on portion sizes, ensuring you have the perfect dining experience.
Among the many delightful dishes, the Eisbein deserves a special mention I had the half portion as seen in the photo provided(half is enough for one person the full sized one is MASSIVE). This dish is particularly amazing, with its perfectly crispy crackling on the fat—it's crispy but not too hard that you can't bite into it, achieving the perfect texture. The meat itself is succulent, juicy, and packed with flavour, truly embodying the excellence of the cuisine offered here.
The other food at this restaurant is equally commendable. Every dish I've had has been delicious, prepared with high-quality ingredients, and presented beautifully. The service is impressively swift; there's little wait time between ordering and the arrival of your meal. Additionally, the beer selection is top-notch, featuring a variety of choices to complement the delectable food.
For dessert, I would highly recommend trying the apple fritters. These delightful treats resemble little apple doughnuts, freshly fried and then flambéed with a splash of alcohol. This not only makes for a fun dining experience but also tastes incredibly good.
While the restaurant is a tad pricier compared to similar establishments, the quality of the food and the exceptional service make it worth every penny. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Munich. It's a dining experience you won’t want to miss, and a place you’re bound to...
Read moreNobody can imagine the disappointment of stopping in Munich, putting my luggage in a locker at the Hauptbahnhof, sludging through the city in the cold, wet and snow only to find that my FAVORITE lunch/dinner spot in Munich for 20 years was GONE GONE GONE.....I almost started crying.
Here's the backstory. I first started visiting Munich in 1987 and fell in love with the city and Bayern. As soon as I graduated college, got a job and started to travel I came to this place every time I was in Munich. I have family in Germany so now twice a year I head to Kiefersfelden to visit my little brother and his family. I stop in Munich for Lunch if it is a layover at the train station or for dinner if I am returning to fly home. Summer and winter like clockwork.
On this particular trip I showed up and it was gone and I was beside myself. I went to shops next door and across the street and asked what happened. Did they move? Did they decide to stop the business? Nobody knew and nobody seemed to think it was as big a deal as I did. I tell people to go there when they visit and when people say "I'm going to Augustiner for a traditional meal when I visit" I say "don't waste your time go to Haxnbauer it's much better" So I had to get over it and find another place to eat
AND THEN....this Christmas on the way to my brother's I stopped in Munich for lunch and went to another place with a friend and we just happened to walk back through the neighborhood LOOK WHO'S BACK!!!! Has a new name but still grilling meat in the window and I am hoping the food is just as good. I'd already eaten so didn't want to be a pig (no pun intended) I will be returning July 2024 to continue my 20 year tradition of lunch on the way to Kieferfelden. GO TO THIS PLACE AND EAT!!! You will NOT be...
