This small hotel is at the heart of Athens and within walking distance of the Acropolis. The surrounding area may first feel as not-so-upscale (old, small shops with run-down facades shaping narrow streets which are busy with locals going about their business, etc.), but I add that to its charm.
It took us (hauling two suitcases and two backpacks) seven minutes to walk to the hotel from the Monastraki metro station. We took the M3 train from the airport which arrived Monastraki in 50 minutes. It was a breeze to find and reach at the hotel. We arrived six hours before the check-in time.
The receptionist was very courteous and helpful. We asked if we could leave our luggage there as we wandered around the neighborhood. He took care of that quickly by moving our stuff into the luggage room.
They were still serving breakfast at the hotel. So, we decided to have our breakfast there and also get some rest. The breakfast is included in the hotel price. However, since we weren't technically staying at the hotel yet, we had to pay for it, which was fine. They actually gave us 30% discount on that. The breakfast was open-buffet featuring eggs (cooked in different ways), Greek olives, Greek cheeses, Greek yogurt, pastries, bread, tomatoes, cucumbers, teas, coffee, OJ, and what not: richness, variety you may not expect from a hotel this size. It was delicious and plenty.
After we finished our breakfast, the receptionist told us that our room was actually ready even though it wasn't check-in time yet. And, they surprised us by upgrading our room. They gave us one of the rooms at the top floor that had a large terrace, from which you could see the Acropolis! The room was large. It had a queen bed, a couch, closets (in which we found two bathrobes, which is not something you usually find in a boutique hotel), safe, minibar, and all other stuff you're used to see in any "nice" hotel room. The bathroom had a large shower and through the window you could see the Acropolis. Everything was clean and organized.
It was noon when we settled in our room. We had arranged with a local company a guided sightseeing tour of Athens and the Acropolis and its museum. We had to call them at least 24-hour before to arrange a hotel pick-up. We asked the receptionists if they could help us with that, which they did gladly. They called in and arranged our pick-up in front of the hotel even though there were less than 24 hours before the tour. We could've arranged it ourselves too or walk to the tour's meeting point (which was actually far away contrary to what we saw on printed and online maps), but being helped like that made things much easier. Other hotel staff was also tremendously helpful and accommodating.
Our check-out was as easy as our check-in was. Our flight wasn't until 8:00pm. We wanted explore more the city, but it'd be impossible with the bags. They told us they could keep them for us in their luggage room, which they did.
All in all, it was one of my most positive and satisfactory hotel stays ever. I loved the hotel and enjoyed the whole experience.
I would absolutely stay at this hotel if/when I come...
Read moreWe stayed one night in a double room and one night in the petite suite. Overall, we had a very poor experience. This was chiefly because of our stay in the petite suite, which we took as a splurge. When we moved into the room there was no running water. We raised this with reception and were assured it was because of a ‘technical problem’ that was receiving attention. When we returned to the hotel nothing had changed. After complaining again, the receptionist was able to find a way to get the (tepid) hot water running. The restoration of hot water was then demonstrated to us as if that solved the problem - even though the toilet still wouldn’t flush. (We had been reduced to using water from the kettle - not pleasant.) We said this wasn’t acceptable and were eventually able to secure use of a toilet in another room on the floor below and a promise of a full refund (given via the manager over the phone and confirmed by him in person the next morning). Despite several follow-up emails and telephone calls (including written assurances the refund was being processed) no refund has been paid. (We should have read the reviews before booking - I see others have also reported this experience.) Even putting to one side the hotel’s failure to deliver an essential component of a decent hotel stay - consistent running water and a flushing toilet - we weren’t overly impressed. There was water trickling through the corridor ceiling the first day we checked in (fixed after we raised with reception). For the price, the double room was comfortable without being great. The petite suite did indeed have acropolis views, but again hardly warranted the ‘boutique’ tag the hotel has given itself. The room was also showing signs of wear (e.g. scuffed floors). The hotel is well located and the breakfast decent. Would definitely not stay again at this hotel though - there are better options in Athens at this price point and the failure to follow through on the promised refund left a sour taste...
Read moreThis was a two night stay that was absolutely fantastic! We booked them on Booking for com after lots of shopping and review reading. We got there at 8am after our cruise for an extra couple of nights to see the sights of Athens. They held our luggage and gave us a thorough explanation of surroundings with tips on dining, shopping, sight seeing and any other questions we had. Our room was very clean, the bed was incredibly comfortable and the AC didn't work when we checked in initially but they had it fixed but the time we were done site seeing for the day. We didn't need to change rooms or anything. The rooms were cleaned regularly and serviced without disturbing our stuff. We were also offered a free snack and drink in our room alone with two bottles of cold water in the fridge that we're regularly restocked as well. Everyone was welcoming, kind and helpful. Breakfast was also lovely- lots of options available depending on your preferences. The coffee was especially good. I also want to address the neighborhood. There were a couple of bad reviews on here that mentioned the noise. We found there to be no noise and very quiet. We slept very well considering Athens is a late night city and we were in bed by 10pm every night. A couple of bad reviews mentioned the rough part of town? It was a vintage district so many people are out selling their antique or used wares which is common in most every city in the world. It was actually really cool and we always felt very safe. We even had a view of one of the monuments of the Acropolis from our room! It is actually a couple streets down from Little Kook so we were grateful to avoid all that foot traffic, noise and bright lights. We got none of it. If you don't know what Little Kook is, look it up. It's bananas! So whether your passing through or here to site see, this hotel was spectacular! Highly...
