Trap for tourists who don't speak Greek would be a mild description; ongoing deception would be the accurate one. And I'm not referring to high prices or the intent to convince you to order the most expensive menu items. Fortunately, ChatGPT was invented, and that's how I later realized I had been scammed.

I received a recommendation from the waitress for the daily special: fried calamari with fries, at a communicated price of €10 per portion. I agreed and ordered two portions and other items. A few minutes later, the waitress informed us that they were out of calamari and asked if we would like to order another menu item for €16. We refused, so she found a "solution" and said they could serve the original calamari menu if we were willing to wait another 30 minutes. We agreed.

In the end, on the bill, the calamari was listed at €14 per portion. I asked for an explanation and was arrogantly told that I hadn’t understood correctly, and that this was the price listed in the menu. I accepted the situation, assuming it was a language misunderstanding, paid without double-checking, and left.

I was left with a feeling of uncertainty, so later I checked the menu. It says: “Daily Special: The waiter will inform you about the daily special'', and the price is not displayed. The conclusion so far is that I was scammed out of €8 — but that’s not all.

On the bill, there are only two categories: food and drinks, with no names of dishes or beverages, and no total amount to pay. So if you happen to have doubts about whether the charged amount is correctly calculated, I guarantee you'll end up paying more than what you actually ordered.

I checked my bank statement and paid €85 for a receipt totaling €78.5 — whatever their Greek math is, that means I was scammed out of another €6.5, on top of the previous €8.

If anyone doesn’t believe me, I attached a photo of the receipt and its translation. Regarding the €14.5 scam, I wish the waitress — or the owner, if this is their usual business practice — to end up spending all that money on candles for their kids.

PS: In the menu, tzatziki price is €6,5 on the receipt I was charged €7.50 — but what does it...

Μάιος 2024 Επιστρέψαμε στο Οβάλ μετά από μήνες για απογευματινό καφέ για να διαπιστώσουμε ότι το σέρβις είναι κάκιστο παρά την πληθώρα του προσωπικού. Τρεις κύριοι με περιβολή και ύφος μετρ περιφέρονταν μάλλον νωχελικά στο χώρο, ο ένας μάλιστα σε σχεδόν γεμάτο μαγαζί, Σάββατο κατά τις 20:00, τραγουδούσε δυνατά με μια σερβιτόρα πίσω από το τραπέζι μας μέχρι που... σήκωσε ψηλά στον αέρα μια καρέκλα αστειευόμενος ότι θα την πετάξει! Οι δε καφέδες για να έρθουν έκαναν γύρω στα 20' αφού νωρίτερα δύο σερβιτόρες είχαν μπερδευτεί μεταξύ τους για το ποια θα αναλάβει το τραπέζι μας... Καλό το Bistronomy παιδιά αλλά κοιτάξτε επειγόντως το σέρβις σας, εκτίθεστε...

Αύγουστος 2023 Το Οβάλ είναι ένα από τα όμορφα μαγαζιά της πόλης αλλά δυστυχώς η ωραία θέα δεν είναι αρκετή. Καθημερινή βράδυ με παρέα 6 ατόμων μεταξύ αυτών και επισκεπτών που ζήτησαν να δουν ένα ωραίο μπαρ της πόλης, καθίσαμε έξω για ποτό σε τραπέζι που μας συνέστησε αμέσως ένας από τους σερβιτόρους. Το σέρβις πολύ καλό και γρήγορο με ευγενικό προσωπικό. Δυστυχώς όμως τα ποτά δεν ανταπεξήλθαν των προσδοκιών. Πέρα από μπύρες και κρασιά, παραγγείλαμε και κάποια πολύ κλασικά ποτά: στον πρώτο γύρο ποτών, το negroni πριν ακουμπήσει καν στο τραπέζι καταλάβαινες από το χρώμα ότι δεν ήταν δυνατό. Η μαργαρίτα σερβιρίστηκε... ζεστή. Στο δεύτερο γύρο ποτών δοκιμάσαμε caipirinha - το ίδιο αδύναμο αποτέλεσμα. Δοκιμάσαμε να παραγγείλουμε frozen μαργαρίτα μπας και σερβιριστεί πιο δροσερή και ήρθε ένα ποτήρι φουλ στο πάγο με ελάχιστο αλκοόλ στον πάτο. Όταν φωνάξαμε το σερβιτόρο, πριν αναφέρουμε εμείς κάτι, μας ρώτησε: -Δεν πίνεται, ε; Είναι δυνατόν να βγαίνει κάτι από το μπαρ και να σερβίρεται στον πελάτη όταν γνωρίζετε εξαρχής ότι ΔΕΝ πίνεται; Πήρανε πίσω τη frozen μαργαρίτα και ζητήσαμε μία... απλή μαργαρίτα με λίγο πάγο! Ακολούθησε άλλη μία παρόμοια μαργαρίτα κερασμένη από το μαγαζί για να σώσει κάπως την κατάσταση. Επίσης τα συνοδευτικά των ποτών είναι πολύ μικρά σε ποσότητα (ξηροί καρποί) ή μάλλον ακατάλληλα (κομμάτια κασέρι με σπασμένα bake rolls στο ίδιο μπολάκι). Είναι απόλυτα κατανοητό ότι έχει περάσει (ίσως ανεπιστρεπτί) η μόδα των άπειρων συνοδευτικών στα οποία παλαιότερα συναγωνίζονταν τα μαγαζιά μεταξύ τους. Σίγουρα όμως υπάρχουν πιο ευρηματικές εναλλακτικές για ένα τόσο κεντρικό μπαρ της πόλης. Γενικά η χαμηλή ποιότητα των ποτών άφησε κυριολεκτικά άσχημη γεύση στην όλη βραδιά. Είναι γεγονός ότι το τελευταίο διάστημα έχει πέσει πολλή προσοχή στο μενού φαγητού του μαγαζιού, αυτό δεν σημαίνει όμως ότι πρέπει να μείνει πίσω η ποιότητα των ποτών. Καλοπροαίρετα λοιπόν 3 αστέρια, καλό μήνα και καλύτερα ποτά στο...

Great restaurant with amazing food and awesome atmosphere. We went on a Saturday night with my husband and his nephew and they had a live performance, even better.

The only downside was half of what’s on the menu was not available, and the service, not sure if it’s the culture or any other reason. Maybe it was busy, there was a mistake with the our order (which happens) and that was corrected.

I’d ordered their special of the night which was lamb, insanely delicious. I needed a toothpick after, which never arrived, and had asked two of the stuff after waiting so long with each while - had to go to the barman and asked for toothpicks and one of the stuff asked just looked away didn’t even acknowledge if they forgot. Such a shame for a service that doesn’t match the food and...
