I went here twice during my stay in Keflavik and it was absolutely awesome. It was under $10 USD for my 15-year-old son and me to go. The locker rooms are nice and have a private shower stall if you want it, and a swimsuit dryer. They have four deep hot tubs (varying temperatures), two shallow hot tubs to lie in, a cold plunge pool, a warm outdoor lap pool, and indoor lap pool, an indoor splash park, and two outdoor waterslides (not very heated, but fun). (There are fun-looking older kid inflatables featured in the pictures but they were not set up either day we were there. My son was disappointed about that.) They also have a dry sauna and a wet sauna. One of the 36-38º hot tubs has strong jets and handles to hold onto it. If you want to activate them, wave at the employee in the booth in the middle. They'll turn them on for you - but then hold on if you don't want to fly across the pool! They are STRONG! But give an amazing massage if you can hold onto the rope or the handles. The pool is open until 9:30pm/21:30 on weekdays which is awesome because so many of the local pools seem to close early. Also on our second visit my son forgot to bring his towel and I don't know if it was because we were coming in at 8:30pm so they were closing soon or something, but she took pity on him and let him borrow one for free. It was very kind of her. I've already recommended this pool to several people in Iceland travel forums! You can go over 10 times and it'll still be less than the famous tourist...

Read moreIf you have an extended layover at KEF (mine was 7 hours), Vatnaveröld is well within an easy cab ride or 50 min walk*. You can rent a locker and towel, and the thermal pools and steam bath are a really nice, relaxing break from the hectic airport.
*If you're up for the walk, there's a bike/walk path that leads all the way from the airport into town. Just exit following the signs for car rentals, take the walkway out and to the left (turn at the Bike Pit) and just near parking section N1 at the back of the lot you should see it running along the tarmac's perimeter fence. If you miss it and end up along the main road, you can pick it up again at the first roundabout (look for the low green sign that says Skógræktarfélag Suðurnesja). And if you're trying to get back to the airport, the trail starts right at the end of...
