Zero support, poor inspection We had a flat tire in the middle of a gravel road F962 at 6pm on a rainy evening. Since we never experienced a flat tire or submit claim. We would want to seek for support and information for nearest car repair or any designated ones. We never got a response both phone or FB messenger until we emailed to and responded from Guide to Iceland next morning, then messages from BlueCar started. The 24 hr hotline, in fact only one number available which is same for both the office and the emergency, was never answered since 8pm till 8am. I have sent them a copy of call history to confirm we called the correct number. I wondered if how could we be supported in case of more major breakdown. Luckily, we purchased insurance from another global agent, they have live chat and instructed what to do, when the connection is broken, they even called us by phone to explain. Imagine if we bought the insurance from BlueCar, we basically got zero support. And for the car itself, we got a car with lots of obvious scratches (some longer than 5cm) which is not completely record on the paper. After we reflected to the staff, he simply wrote lots of scratches on both sides. Imagine if we didn't cross-check, there might be unnecessary argument upon return, you might of forced to compensate or delay your departure. We rent a Dacia Duster 2018, we got a 2017, to my experience, car rental usually offer the same year or model upgrade instead of giving customer a older model. Then, the free GPS is outdated which the system was a 2013 version, we simply use google map throughout our journey. The car itself is not problematic, but the way they run a business. If you don't have enough new car, you shouldn't sell such plan. Customers expected a newer model if the plan said so.

Very bad experience with this car rental company, and I can't recommend that anyone use them. First of all, the car that I got, a Dacia SUV, was a total hunk of garbage. Everything was more difficult than it should have been. The trunk was especially bad, and was nearly impossible to open. Often it was easier to load it through the back seats. Not exactly more convenient for a sports utility vehicle. They sell what they refer to as "no worry, no liability" insurance, but if you read the fine print, it turns out to not cover much at all. This is especially problematic in a country with weather and roads like Iceland, where blowing out a tire simply happens with time. I was driving on the South coast of Iceland, using route 1 the whole time. There was a short gravel track to our guest house. We drove very slowly and responsibly, but unfortunately still blew out our tire. Upon contacting the company, they simply asked if I knew how to change a tire. I thought that having purchased the insurance might have meant SOMETHING, but they were totally unhelpful. Of course I knew how to change a tire, but they did not even offer to send a tow or anything. I was simply expected to take the car to a mechanic and have the tire replaced on my dime. As you might expect, this is not cheap in Iceland. To be fair, they do state that the insurance does not cover damage to tires, but there are so many exceptions to the insurance that it seems to cover very little other than getting rear-ended. I think it's frankly scammy, and when I needed help, I had the sense that for them, the customer relation ended the second they got my money. If getting stranded in the middle of nowhere sounds like fun to you, by all means, go with Blue Car Rental!

I have premium membership with AVIS, yet I went with Blue in Iceland because like many of you I saw their advertisements and I believed in them. This was the biggest mistake I made in Iceland. 1. After getting our car, we spent at least an hour going back and forth to their office and had at least 4 different associates came to assist because A. They gave us a broken car seat B. Back door somehow unable to open from inside ( not because of childproof but the car door got stuck). No apologies no compensation of anything for our loss of time and energy. 2. Two days in, in a midnight, I received an email saying they have charged me additionally because they “suspect” I didn’t pay parking fee, which was absurd and I have attached receipt proving I have paid. 3. Like many other reviews said, no response to their email. As I have sent such proof to them immediately and no response. The claim on their website such as “ no hidden fees” and “ no “deposits” are both lies as they just added a fee for this wrongful accusation as they please, they have also charged my credit card without me consent to it. Stay away from this company and go with the big ones I would say.

This review is a copy of the one I posted for Guide to Iceland, as they were the company who reserved our rental with BlueCar:

No communication on reservation status unless initiated by the customer

Expensive calls to Iceland to reconfirm arrangements, due to no responses to email requests

Promises to advise status that never materialized until demands by me

Received confirmed itinerary only 7 days prior to departure(too late to make any alternate arrangements if necessary)...and that, only after emails and phone calls demanding the information.

BlueCar rental(confirmed by Guide To Iceland as part of the package we purchased) claimed the rate had doubled only after we arrived in Reykjavik, and we were told repeatedly that there were no cars available(due to Covid) anywhere in the country, thus, holding us hostage to either pay double the cost, or leave us on our own to re-plan everything on-the-spot, and pay those hotels, etc again, with no guarantee of a refund from Guide To Iceland...and, with no cars available anywhere on the island.

Again, Guide To Iceland had 3 weeks to resolve the issue, and of course, never contacted me with any status, until I emailed them, threatening to relentlessly put my story all over social media and contacting every radio and news outlet in Iceland with the headline: "...Guide To Iceland and BlueCar hold American tourists hostage upon arrival in Iceland". Almost one month after the initial demand for full refund of the additional amount extorted by Blue Car, the refund was completed to the credit card.

This would have been, easily, a FIVE STAR review, but, I just cannot find it in me, to even give a ONE STAR review solely due to blatant disregard for customer communication and reassurance on the status of the reservation....without initiating and demanding answers. I got tired of the excuses about being busy due to the influx of tourists to Iceland after opening up after the Covid restrictions had been lifted. We paid THOUSANDS of dollars to Guide To Iceland, and quite honestly, expected more from them, especially to receive our confirmed itinerary more than 7 days prior to departure.

I would really hate any other customers to have such a terrible experience working with GTI in the future. BEWARE!!

Is this how you would expect your reservations to be handled by "...Iceland's Premier Travel Agency"? I certainly didn't.

To be clear, if I could give the COUNTRY and PEOPLE of Iceland a star rating, I would give it 50 STARS...it's truly a WORLD TREASURE...amazing, amazing, amazing!

RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM BOTH GUIDE TO ICELAND...

I have been renting cars for the past 8 years, and I was incorrectly informed that the international car rental company I rent from does not have a branch in Reykjavik only in the airport. I had planned a road trip on the ring road for the second week of my vacation in Iceland. As soon as I booked online with blue car rental, I was charged 20% of the fees. The cancellation period goes back three weeks prior to rental pick-up time otherwise it’s non-refundable. I thought this was odd but no matter I kept my reservation. The rates were approximately 30-40% higher than other rental companies. Pick- up: The representative did not conduct inspection with me, there were several dents and scratches on the car. They had vaguely indicated the damages on the contract. They also indicated the fuel level as full and it wasn’t. Drop-off: there was a severe weather warning and we were advised to either change travel arrangements or be very careful. I was driving from the affected zone and I called the office ahead of time to warn them I am most likely going to be late, by 10 mins after closing time. I was told it would be fine. I arrive at the office and the office is completely closed with no employees in sight. The area the office is located at is very industrial and unwelcoming. I call the general office number and after 5 rings I get a gentleman on the phone, and I am expecting reasonable arrangement for drop-off. I propose to drop off the keys in the mail slot in the door. I got threatened that if I do that “We will call the cops on you”. I explain politely that I do not need the car as my flight is next day and I had already arranged for shuttle transport. “We do not care, this is your responsibility since you are late”. I ask for a solution. “You’re going to have to come back tomorrow when the office is open and we will charge you for an extra day”. I explain that I didn’t budget for this… “We will deal with you tomorrow”. I ended up bringing it to the airport office, charged for an extra day, and a service fee of about 40$ because the tank wasn’t at the exact full mark. I did my best to fill it from the last gas station on the road and it a hairline under full. I wasn’t offered a shuttle to the airport terminal. It’s relatively close when you are not carrying luggage but very tedious and I had to drag my duffel bag across the asphalt. Not something you would expect after putting 800$ in a car rental. This is the poorest customer service experience. Please be warned and consider...

I recently had the pleasure of renting a car from BLUE Rental Cars in Iceland, actually twice this year, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. From start to finish, their service was top-notch, and I would highly recommend them to anyone planning a trip to this beautiful country.

First and foremost, the selection of cars at BLUE Rental Cars is impressive. They have a wide range of vehicles to suit every need, from compact cars for solo travelers to spacious SUVs for families or larger groups. I was able to choose a vehicle that perfectly fit my requirements, and it was in excellent condition, clean, and well-maintained.

The customer service I received from BLUE Rental Cars was exceptional. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help with any questions I had about the rental process, road conditions, or local recommendations. They made the pickup and drop-off process smooth and hassle-free, which is so important when you're traveling in a foreign country.

One of the standout features of my experience with BLUE Rental Cars was their commitment to transparency. They provided me with all the information I needed upfront, including insurance options and fees, so there were no surprises or hidden costs. This level of honesty and clarity is greatly appreciated and sets them apart from other rental companies.

In addition to their great service and car selection, BLUE Rental Cars offers competitive pricing, making it an excellent value for your money. I felt like I got a fantastic deal on my rental, especially considering the quality of the vehicle and the outstanding service I received.

Lastly, driving in Iceland can be an adventure in itself, with its stunning landscapes and varying road conditions. BLUE Rental Cars provided me with a well-equipped vehicle that gave me peace of mind while exploring the country's natural wonders.

Overall, I can't recommend BLUE Rental Cars in Iceland enough. They offer a fantastic combination of great cars, excellent customer service, transparent pricing, and reliability. If you're planning a trip to Iceland and need a reliable rental car company, don't hesitate to choose BLUE Rental Cars – they'll help make your Icelandic adventure...
