The city's icon Flora Fountain, is a Grade I heritage structure with a three tier fountain built in Portland stone. The fountain was commissioned by the Agro Horticultural Society of Western India for Victoria Gardens (presently Veer Mata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan Zoo). However, it was shifted to adorn the newly restructured Fort Area. Constructed by the Esplanade Fee Fund for a total cost of Rs.47,000, it was designed by Norman Shaw and sculpted by James Forsyth, both well reputed professionals in their respective fields in Britain. The fountain was dedicated to the city on November 18, 1869. The fountain was initially called Frere Fountain but eventually became popular as the Flora Fountain after the Roman Goddess Flora, whose statue stands prominently on top of the Fountain At its lower level it houses statues of 4 allegorical figures seated in niches, representing the industrial, cereal, plant and edible fruit products of India and, on the higher level, it has 4 celestial fishes. The restoration of the monument and refurbishment of the surrounding area was carried out from 20172019 by the MCGM, The project received the UNESCO ASIA-PACIFIC AWARD for Cultural Heritage Conservation-2019 under the Hon. Mention Category. Flora Fountain has seen a much transformation over the decades. Today it's not what it used to be in the 90's. The ambience has become more tourist friendly. Located in the midst of busy road near Churchgate station, it's a landmark destination of Mumbai City. Built in 1864, this stunning Gothic Revival fountain and sculpture celebrates the Roman goddess Flora, gracefully perched at the top! Once a quiet marvel, today it’s a lively spot right by the bustling road. We went there in the evening after sunset and were attracted by the beautiful ambience of the place. On one side is the noise of ongoing traffic while on the other side you can sit and relax as you soak in the beauty of flora fountain. The place has been beautifully decorated with sitting facilities that attracts tourists as well as the locals to take a break and sit on the benches or on the grass and invest sometime in the night light that illuminates the area. The street side eatery takes care of your small hunger. If you are in Mumbai do take this opportunity to visit flora fountain. With beautiful lighting and cozy seating, it’s become a must-visit for anyone looking to unwind, snap a selfie, or capture that perfect shot of the surroundings. Flora Fountain is an iconic blend of history and charm that brings the magic of old Mumbai to life!

A must visit place,if you come to explore South Bombay. The beauty of the monument will surely leave you in awe. The birds flying over it,makes it more beautiful. Most of all, it's very picturesque. A 15 min walk from CST station. Flora Fountain stands beautifully next to Hutatma Statue. Flora Fountain has a roman goddess Flora, which was erected by the then British government. Don't forget to look at the old tram tracks preserved by pavement blocks. The Hutatma statue next to it holds a beautiful lawn map of Maharashtra and a raging torch to salute Martyrs who fought for Mumbai's inclusion in Maharashtra. The book market near Flora fountain is a must visit for book lovers where we can get almost any book at a low price. I visited the Mumbai in the month of October and this place is one of the place I visited with when i was in Mumbai. I love to visit this place and the surrounding is very nice and it is very beautiful place. If you are going to visit mumbai then i will suggest to visit this place and list this place in your list of mumbai planning.

lora Fountain is one of the tourist places within Churchgate. It stands at the same place where the destroyed ChurchGate of Mumbai used to be. The fountain was designed by R. Norman Shaw, and it has a mix of Neo-Gothic and Indo-Saracenic styles. It was built in 1864, by Engineer James Forsythe. This Portland stone structure has fine carvings and sculptures. Its four corners are decorated with different statues. And the water basin below has stone fish figures and lion heads. A magnificent 7 feet high statue of Roman Goddess Flora adorns the fountain top. And you can enjoy a spectacular view of Flora Fountain in the evening; when it's illuminated by lights.

built by the british , this fountain was the prime attraction of mumbai, erstwhile Bombay city. located at the junction on road from churchgate station to Horneyman Circle which hosts a cathedral the fountain has been now restored to its past glory. the area is now better known as Hutatma Chowk. the fountain is now working as the restoration is complete. illuminated t night. but the best time to visit would be early mornings and evening as the area is very crowded during the day. offers a very good view and photo opportunity as there are no buildings behind it as the road leads directly upto marine drive promenade.
