Fort in South Mumbai has been a difficult place to crack for a lot of restaurants, with a lot of places open and shut! However if a place has been there for more than 7 years there, it just talks loads about how successful it has been there and 1 such place is Paratha Mantra! The place has been relocated from its original place where it was since more than 6 years, but you can locate this easily on your maps!
As the name suggests, the place specialises in Parathas. Run by a Marwari family special emphasise has been given to Jains also in this all veg restaurant. You have a complete separate menu and not just a separate section which is quite unique. The Fort outlet is the flagship outlet where as one at Lalbaug is a franchisee, managed by a centralised kitchen in South Mumbai. Paratha Mantra is a well known brand for catering as well. They take party orders and also power live paratha counters of some wedding caterers. They serve to a lot of corporate as delivery in Fort area as well.
Talking about what all I tried at Paratha Mantra -
We started with unique starter which I have never tried before. Had Pav Bhaji Paratha Nachos - unique combination where Crisp Lachha Paratha is your base with Nachos toppings, cheese and pav bhaji sauce. Loved the combination and I would recommend all to try this definitely!
Next from Tandoori starters, we had the Achari Paneer Tikka and Cheesy Broccoli Tandoori. I have tried Cheesy Broccoli in a lot of places and the ones that I had here were of the better ones. Paneer Tikka with pickle marination had good flavour, but Paneer was a little on the hard side. Tandoor does take away a lot of softness and moisture of the paneer but I am sure they can try and make it soft.
Next in line was the Aloo Tuk Chaat, had heard really good things about it. One good thing for me about this Chaat was that it had a rich amount of chutneys - tamarind as well as Pudina / green chutney. The taste of chaat really enhances when chutneys are mixed well. In case you prefer it little dry, please do inform them and I am sure they can prepare a drier version of it. Another good part is green chutney is given on the side so you can also mix depending on how spicy you like your chaat. They have worked really hard on the presentation of the dishes as well, which can be seen.
Now talking about their speciality - Parathas! They are prepared in different variations here. First of all there are more than 25 different Parathas and when they can be prepared in 4 different ways you can just imagine the choice you are spoilt with. They prepare in 1) Home style or Mon style on Tawa, 2) Tandoor Style 3) Pizzeria Style (Pizza Style where all stuffing is placed just as toppings on a Pizza) and 4) Purani Dilliwale Paranthe Galli Style (Fried Parathas)
We tried 4 different Parathas - Hara Bhara Paratha prepared in Home Tawa Style. Next tried the Vada Pav Paratha prepared in Pizzeria Style where all Vada Pav toppings are placed on top of the crisp Parathas. Also tried the Paneer Bhurji Paratha which was prepared in Tandoori Style and finally Pizza Paratha in Purani Dilli Paranthe Galli Style. Of all of them I personally loved Paneer Bhurji and especially the Pizza Paratha which was fried.
Amongst the Veg Curries, we ordered for Veg Afghani and Dal Makhani! Absolutely awesome! I loved both these main dishes and highly recommended! With the mains, we had Modi Nagar ki Shikanji and Chaas. Again really well prepared and should try basis your preference.
Finally for desserts, had Lonavala Fudge Paratha with Vanilla Ice-cream, Chaturbhuj ke Gulab Jamun and Malpua with Rabri. Absolutely loved the Fudge Paratha, whole wheat Paratha stuffed with Fudge and topped with chocolate sauce. It tastes divine with Vanilla Ice-cream which was actually suggested by a guest. Chaturbhuj ke Gulab Jamun is again very unqiue and different and not the regular ones you get, can try if open to experimenting. Malpua with Rabri...

✨Pizzeria paneer bhurji paratha - So this pizza had a really crisp base (of paratha) with proper usage of sauces and abundant paneer burji. Nicely made !💓💓
✨Dal makhani and Dilli ke chole (with tandoor rotis and kulcha)- Let me tell you, this was the best dal makhani I have tasted till date. I was left speechless after having a spoon. You don't even need the rice or roti to have it, it's that good. I was having it like kheer. Dilli ke chole is also good but comparatively Dal makhani tops the main course item list. 💓💓💓
✨Lonavala fudge paratha - The inhouse fudge stuffed inside a paratha, topped with chocolate sauce and served with icecream. Could not have been any better. Amazing !💓💓💓

✨Mango kulfi - Freshly cut mango pieces are stuffed inside Kulfi and refrigerated. They are then taken out and chopped in pieces and served. Therefore you will be able to find mango pieces in it along with the classic Kulfi layer on them. An amazing innovative dessert.💓💓💓
Right from the chutneys till the fudge, everything is prepared by the restaurants centralised kitchen and therefore you find find the same quality in their outlet as well. The service was very good and the staff was really friendly. Ambience is good and yes, the food is totally worth the amount spent. I would highly recommend people to visit...

At Paratha Mantra, you are spoilt for choice with regards to the filling you have in your Paratha. One has the option to the choose from the traditional stuffing like Aloo, Methi, Mooli etc and the new age stuffing like Cheese, Chinese, Wada Pav, Paneer Bhurji, Pizza etc. One also has an option to choose the manner in which you Paratha is baked; on a Tava, in a Tandoor, in a Pizzeria oven and fried just like it is done in the Parathewali Gali, Old Delhi. You have also have an option of flour base; refined flour [maida], whole wheat & multigrain.
The place has minimalistic décor and is somewhat rustic. They play contemporary music in the background which can be loud at times. The place can accommodate 30 people at a time.
TANDOOR PANEER TIKKA PARATHA [INR 195] At the outset, I wish to place on record by disappointment about the size of the Paratha. I found it to be disproportionate for the price charged. The stuffing was lovely and had a nice flavor to it. The quantity of stuffing was generous and the Paratha was filled end to end. It was baked in a Tandoor and hence it was nicely done. It was brushed up with a generous amount og butter. RECOMMENDED
JODHPURI ALOO PARATHA [INR 195] Aloo ki sabzi made in Jodhpuri style adding all the masala’s that go into Rajasthani cuisine especially fennel seeds. The stuffing was dark red or brown and then stuffed into a whole wheat dough. The Paratha was baked on a tawa. All their Paratha’s are served with cucumber raita and pickle mixed with finely chopped raw onions.
PIZZA PARATHA [INR 195] This is their in-house specialty, the Pizza Paratha. The whole wheat dough is stuffed with “mozz” cheese & finely vegetables like bell peppers, onions & garlic and then rolled. The Cheese melts when the Paratha is baked. However, I didn’t take a fancy to it & the stuffing was unevenly spread in a couple of slices.
CHATURBHUJ KE GULAB JAMUN [INR 125] Chaturbhuj ke Gulab Jamun originates from the royal city of Jodhpur. It is a 100 year old shop located in the Sarafa Bazaar of Jodhpur. I have no idea how they have managed to source those Gulab Jamun’s here but they are nothing but heavenly bliss. The unique factor about this Gulab Jamun is that is not served with the sugary syrup but the sugar syrup is permeated and absorbed by each & every pore in the Jamun. Eat to to believe it! ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED
CHAAS [INR 95] Chaas is fresh, creamy and goes well with the other dishes on the menu.
The service is good & quick. The staff is efficient, well-informed about the menu & one can trust their recommendations.
Paratha Mantra is one place where you can visit to satisfy your Paratha cravings and enjoy some authentic desi desserts as well. The prices tilt towards to the expensive side but they are worth every...
