Nel 1727 Felice De Vincenti, ufficiale ingegnere del Regio Esercito di Sardegna, potenziò il sistema fortificatorio nella zona nord del Castello di Cagliari con la nuova Porta S. Pancrazio, detta in seguito “dell’Avanzata” per il toponimo seicentesco della “estrada Avancada” di collegamento del Castello al sottostante borgo di Villanova, utile per le fughe strategiche dell’artiglieria in tempo di assedio.
