This beautiful, gleaming monument to Como native Alessandro Volta, the renowned physicist who invented the first electric battery, stands in the lake a short distance from the shoreline. Life Electric was a gift to Como from Polish-American artist Daniel Libeskind, who owns an architecture school in the town. The twelve ton steel sculpture depicts the electrical tension between the poles of a battery and is connected to the town via a three hundred and fifty meter pier paved with flagstones.
