Ristorante Pizzeria Funicolare — Restaurant in Como

Visiting como for the first time since 2013 I was of course looking forward to dining at this restaurant where I have eaten many time’s in the past and each time was a wonderful experience. Sadly things have changed. The alarm bell first sounded when an American man got up from his table after paying his bill and came over to ours , he looked very unhappy, he whispered to us ‘ don’t order the lasagna’ 2nd was how long it took to get our order taken , my girlfriend was already counting down but after a while we finally got to order . The food was very good but the service and whole ambiance of the place was very poor. The staff didn’t seem interested and were dressed looking like they had just come out of the kitchen after washing dishes , no one asked if we needed anything or if everything was okay, they were all to busy chatting amongst themselves. The staff member who took my hard earned money was not happy I didn’t tip , he mumbled something under his breath then walked away without saying anything. I’m sorry but this nonsense of a cover charge then very poor service I’m not going to tip . Yes the food was nice but I really think you can’t mess pizza up . It is impossible to miss this place, if you are walking around Como, on the western bank of the lake. It has quite a large terrace even in winter, enclosed by glass. This offers a great view of the lake and it doesn’t really matter what anything inside looks like - even though furnishings are good. The service is on point and the orders come through quite fast - even though there weren’t many customers during our visit, which has surely had an effect. Adding to that, the staff are friendly and their etiquette is top. The food was quite delicious, and the size of the portions was very good, even for the desserts. The french fries we ordered on the side were a bit bland, though, as well as one piece of meat that was a bit too hard. As far as prices go, they were generally fair, even though some items on the menu seemed a bit pricey compared to others, but that is not a huge complaint. If you’re looking for a good place to eat, with a view, while visiting Como, we recommend you take a look at this place, since you will almost certainly not leave...

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR GOOD FOOD. The view was beautiful and the drinks were delicious, and the staff was friendly and service was fast. The food however was awful.

We ordered ravioli and seafood pasta, and calamari to start. The calamari was dry but ok, but the pasta was terrible. The ravioli had a lingering aftertaste that haunts me till now, and was rock hard inside. The seafood pasta had a good sauce, but the seafood was not fresh and the pasta was terrible.

On top of this, it was quite expensive, which is to be expected with such a good location, but for this money it is inexcusable to have food this bad. I would not have even paid half the amount for the food served.

My partner and I are foodies from Australia, and have eaten great food from all over the world, this was not one of those times.
