I am an executive chef who is a frequent traveler from New York, USA and I stay at the hotel where the restaurant is located. The food is amazing at all their restaurants and all restaurants are extremely clean. Some of my favorites are Octopus Carpaccio, Frutti de Marre, Grigliata di Pesce, Bistecca, pizza is super crisp and light, Misto Mare and the most special is “Whole Branzino cooked in Salt” on a special request which they would make it for me every time. The staff treats me like a family. The Hotel Marco’s and Ristorante Funiculare owners also own another restaurant two doors down called Fontana D’Oro and El Sombrero which is in the city center about 10 minutes fun walk which I enjoy all greatly! Be aware the weekends are extremely busy and I would suggest reserving a table in advance when you book your room at Hotel Marco’s! The main owner Senior Ihsan Gungor is a world class master chef who is behind the scenes. I attended many of his cooking classes where he taught in New York. Lago di Como is one of the heavens on earth and many thanks to GUNGOR family to make me feel like at home away from home! Grazie Mille!!

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR GOOD FOOD. The view was beautiful and the drinks were delicious, and the staff was friendly and service was fast. The food however was awful. We ordered ravioli and seafood pasta, and calamari to start. The calamari was dry but ok, but the pasta was terrible. The ravioli had a lingering aftertaste that haunts me till now, and was rock hard inside. The seafood pasta had a good sauce, but the seafood was not fresh and the pasta was terrible. On top of this, it was quite expensive, which is to be expected with such a good location, but for this money it is inexcusable to have food this bad. I would not have even paid half the amount for the food served. My partner and I are foodies from Australia, and have eaten great food from all over the world, this was not one of those times. Please don’t come here for anything other than drinks with a view, but if that’s what you are looking for then definitely it is worth checking out, make sure you get a reservation on the terrace.

I recently dined at Ristorante Pizzeria Funicolare, an Italian gem nestled right on the lakefront of Lake Como. The atmosphere was enchanting, with stunning views of the lake providing a serene backdrop to our meal. To start, our kind waiter, Gokhan, crafted custom cocktails featuring local liquors. He also recommended local spots for hiking and sightseeing to capture all that Lake Como has to offer. The highlight of our evening was the fresh seafood pasta. The perfectly cooked fresh pasta combined with the succulent, fresh seafood was a delightful experience for the taste buds. By far, the best fresh pasta I’ve ever had. For dessert, we indulged in their homemade tiramisu. It was an absolute treat—light, creamy, and with just the right hint of espresso and cocoa. To top it all off, we savored a glass of their exquisite limoncello, which was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. This is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Italian cuisine and a picturesque dining experience.

When COLD bread is served, you know the dishes won't be good, and truly they are... We ordered a spaghetti ragu, ravioli zaff, seafood mussel salad, and coffee. For me, only the spaghetti is with flavor. Others aren't worth of comments. It's hard to imagine the restaurant would serve cold bread, which is terrible and not fresh at all. The bread is for birds, not for humans... the dough of ravioli is undercooked, and the whole dish tastes nothing. About the seafood salad, ya... bland as well, you got to adjust the flavor by yourself with peper olive oil and salt on the table. Nevertheless, the restaurant is located right on the lake side with beautiful views, and the sunshine that day is wonderful, and maybe it's the reason why they don't put much attention on dishes for people still will buy it. By the way, character of the server is nice, but they seem to lack training, for the coffee is served right in the beginning.

I had high hopes for this restaurant, but overall it was a bit of a letdown. The food quality was below average, and most dishes were overly salty. I ordered the carbonara, but unfortunately it wasn’t a real carbonara—more of a creamy pasta than the traditional version. The prices were quite high for what was offered, which made the experience feel less worth it. On the positive side, the staff were polite and friendly, and the design of the place, both inside and outside, was very nice—definitely a good-looking spot. However, one woman inside was surprisingly aggressive when I was simply taking some photos and videos, which was uncomfortable and unnecessary. The toilet was okay, nothing special but clean enough. Overall, a stylish place with kind staff, but the food and atmosphere left a lot to be desired.

Seeing the glowing reviews for the food, I think either the reviewers are acquaintances of the restaurant or they have never tasted good food before. We went to this restaurant based on the high number of positive reviews. However, our experience was disappointing. We ordered seafood pasta and pizza. The pizza was very ordinary, and the pasta was tasteless. The beer was served warm, and when we mentioned it, they brought us ice instead of a cold beer. Unfortunately, we had to drink it warm. The price-performance ratio was not good. We chose this place for its beautiful lake view, but they blocked the view with a curtain, so we couldn’t see the lake. We were only satisfied with the service of one female waiter; other than that, I do not recommend this place. I'm sorry, but that's how I feel.
