This is a very well appointed hotel. The staff are very professional and are a credit to a well managed hotel. We stayed on the 6th floor in a junior suite. The room had pleasant furnishings and comfy bed. The bathroom had a bath/shower and bidet. The toilet flush was a little temperamental, but everything worked. |We have one piece of advice if you have any walking issues. The sixth floor balcony will be a challenge. There is a significant step up and down on either side of the balcony doors. We had two balconies in a corner room. The step would not be an issue for a reasonably fit person. This was an issue for us, but with care the balconies were reachable. We understood from reception that this is a feature of sixth floor rooms. The hotel might like to consider the provision of a step stool.|Dining at the hotel was very good. The restaurant has a limited menu but should not detract from the presentation and quality, which was excellent. The breakfast buffet was good - not exceptional. Some guests rated it highly. The fruit selection for me did deserve credit. |Overall, the hotel is very good, with a lake view location. Would we stay again - probably! Due to mobility issues, we would try to avoid the sixth floor. A pity because the view is very good. A final plus point was the provision of BBC1 and BBC2. Much appreciated. Our thanks...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stayed at Hotel Barchetta Excelsior for 4 nights & were very glad we did. Its location is perfect, very central so one is surrounded by many traditional, family-run restaurants and small & big stores, just a short cab ride from the train station, a short stroll from the ferry points to visit the other lakeside towns and to the cable car station, and best of all, directly facing the stunning Lake Como and, if you had a lake facing room on a high floor like we did, the view alone is worth the price you pay, which, during this off peak season, is surprisingly reasonable. During our stay last week, a pretty & very fun Christmas market of many interesting stalls has been set up in front of the hotel. Their cheery red and white roofs, twinkly lights, smiling vendors & Christmassy Italian wares is such a welcome sight when daylight hours are shorter. The staff - special shout out to Marko & Suzana - are gracious & professional, recommending and making reservations for restaurants that always turn out pretty awesome.
The hotel itself is a great find especially at the off season rate, but we think dining in Como is relatively expensive compared to, say, Venice or Milan. And November is off peak season for a reason - it has shorter, colder and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLovely greeting on arrival where all the amenities were explained. Nothing was too much trouble when I asked about them arranging an airport transfer early Sunday morning, reception could immediately tell me the cost and that breakfast would be provided in a breakfast bag but we would still be able to get a coffee at 7am before departure. The room was stunning with a lake view and balcony, very worth while upgrading to this! |We became aware of a local festival taking place in the square in front of the hotel Friday afternoon to Sunday. Very smelly cheese, local delicacies, jewellery and many other items including pop performances from live bands on Friday night - very good and a local childrenās choir on Saturday, a Pride type procession and a disco very loud with the square packed with people enjoying themselves - great to have the balcony in this instance! |In addition Lake Como decided āto visit the cityā as one tour guide described the extensive local flooding! The all day trip to Lugano, Bellagio and cruise in lake Como is highly recommended to complete a wonderful experience with this hotel at the centre.|I canāt miss out the very special food served in the resteraunt which was exceptional.|More than worthy...
