If you are looking for a fun, authentic, cooking experience while visiting Lake Como look no further! My husband, my parents and I were spending 4 days in Menaggio. We booked this class in Bellagio and planned to spend the day there. What we hadn’t realized was that the cooking class was located near San Giovani and that is not where the ferry would drop us off. We had assumed there would be a taxi available and Uber even showed that it was available and working in Bellagio! Except on the day of our class that wasn’t the case. The ferries can be a bit confusing as different lines often go to the same destinations. We ended up on a ferry that arrived in Bellagio much later than we expected. And we still had to find a way to San Giovani. We alerted Ana of our delay and were prepared to fully miss our class. After about 30 minutes and no luck of finding a Taxi or Uber, we discovered the Bellagio Express. A small train that drives around Bellagio and stops right in San Giovani! It’s 5 Euros for a round trip ride. You can hop off or on the express at any of its 6 stops. Once we hoped on the train, we shortly arrived in San Giovani and to our luck, Ana was still able to give us the class as we were the only four booked at this time.

We traveled in a classic wooden boat which was very charming. The seats were comfortable with cushioned seating. Could easily fit 6. You can also sit on the back of the boat for a little elevated view, perfect for soaking up the beauty of the lake. Our guide Jacamo was very friendly and professional. He was very knowledgeable and added flavor to the trip with interesting stories about various villas and landmarks on Lake Como. One bit of advice, chat with the booking company about what sights you would like to see so they can recommend a length of tour. For example, if you are starting in Varenna or further north on the Lake and you want to pass by the Clooney villa, you can make it there and back in two hours, but you will miss many other cool villas and sights.
