A quick overnight in Como and we were recommended this restaurant. The first impression was not great, no menu outside to read, just staff encouraging passers-by to come in, but then they weren't willing to seat us as our whole party hadn't arrived. So we couldn't even get a drink whilst waiting! Our group soon arrived and the frosty reception changed, but we were sat outside. It got so cold on the outer tables everyone else asked to be seated inside. Music was playing and the atmosphere was good. For NOTE some of the pizzas we ordered were just cheese topped, no tomato base, which our party thought were not as nice (just too much cheese/bread). The starters were the best, breaded cheeses, mussels in a spicy broth with almonds (staff kept recommending), were both really tasty. Some of the mains sadly lacked balance with little or no salad/ veg. The pasta dish with tomato sauce was basic, could have been tastier. Desserts were good though. Read moreI rarely write negative reviews and believe in second chances but I’m making an exception here. I got the Moscardini allá Luciana (octopus). Out of my over 2 weeks around Italy it was probably the most disappointing meal I’ve had and I only ate about half my dish so I do not recommend this restaurant.
I’ve had at least 4 octopus dishes to compare in Italy alone. The octopus did not taste fresh and the texture was more chewy than firm. I say this regardless of my personal flavor preferences which I didn’t really like the flavor (but again flavor is subjective).
Service wise the restaurant was lacking as well. It started out well then after my food was taken I had to ask 3 times for the check with multiple waiters standing around. Once I did get the check I was then told I have to go inside to pay it at the register so I’m not sure why not send me...
