A perfect dream Stepping into the enchanting world of Villa Monastero felt like entering a fairytale. Nestled on the picturesque shores of Lake Como, this hidden gem left me awe-struck with its timeless beauty and captivating charm. From the moment I set foot in the villa's meticulously manicured gardens, I was transported to a place of serenity and tranquility. The vibrant colors of the blooming flowers, the scent of citrus trees, and the gentle whispers of the lake created an atmosphere that was nothing short of magical. The interior of Villa Monastero was equally breathtaking. Each room exuded elegance and grace, adorned with stunning frescoes, intricate tapestries, and antique furniture that told stories of a rich history. Walking through the halls, I couldn't help but feel a sense of reverence for the artistry and craftsmanship that went into creating such a masterpiece. One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the botanical garden, a true botanical paradise. Every turn revealed a new marvel, from exotic plants to vibrant blossoms, all harmoniously blending with the surrounding natural beauty. Strolling along the pathways, I felt like an explorer discovering hidden treasures at every corner. The views from Villa Monastero were simply breathtaking. As I stood on the terraces overlooking Lake Como, I was captivated by the majestic mountains that framed the azure waters. It was a mesmerizing panorama that seemed to be painted just for me. The staff at Villa Monastero were incredibly warm and welcoming, ensuring that my visit was nothing short of perfection. There is a cafe that served cold drinks and food, well priced. If you're seeking a place where time slows down, where beauty surrounds you at every turn, and where your soul finds solace, Villa Monastero is the perfect destination. It's a place where dreams come alive, memories are made, and the enchantment of Italy's cultural heritage unfolds before your eyes. A truly unforgettable experience.

Exquisite epicurean gardens...beautiful in their crumbling but fine 18th/19C flamboyant architectural features/sculptures and strange but glorious spikey plants and hidden planty aromas BUT visitor beware....do not be lured in to have your lunch there as I was. I like proper cooking and was taken in by the notice for the cafe/bar/restaurant...primi (choice of 3) secondi (choice of 3) so I thought ...great ...a nice little lunch...'menu del dia' style... in the garden ...oh bliss! The setting is blissful but here's how it goes...no vegetables at all. They do not come with the little plastic microwaved trays so cannot be conjured up. First course chicken with lemon sauce (curdled but to be fair very tasty) followed by the strangest thing I've ever had put in front of me labelled as food...2 thin slices of meat with the whole plate and it's miniscule meat offering smothered in an inch thick layer of pink mayonnaise... apparently a tuna sauce ...no veg, no salad, no fresh bread just bread sticks... in cellophane and the price ...the same as a la carte...not a lunch menu at all really. OK... so maybe the Italians like this ...just warning those of you who might not. Have seen a couple of other food reviews where this issue in other so called restaurants (that aren't) has been commented on. Seems to be a bit of a problem for those of us with higher standards and expectations....mainly because we are mislead....we expect you to have a kitchen not just a fridge and a microwave.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Villa Monastero is a true gem on the shores of Lake Como, and I can't recommend it enough for weddings. It's a place that exudes charm and elegance in every corner. The meticulously maintained gardens are a botanical wonderland, providing a picturesque setting for a wedding ceremony and reception. The breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains create a romantic atmosphere that's hard to beat. One of the standout features of Villa Monastero is the option for a private boat tour. Being able to take a leisurely cruise on the serene waters of Lake Como is an experience like no other. It adds an extra layer of luxury and exclusivity to any wedding celebration. The staff at Villa Monastero are incredibly accommodating and attentive, ensuring that every detail of your special day is taken care of. They go above and beyond to make your wedding dreams come true. If you're looking for a destination that combines natural beauty, historic charm, and the romance of Lake Como, look no further than Villa Monastero. It's a dream location for weddings, and I can't give it anything less than a 5-star rating.

This villa, garden and grounds were just o.k. for me. Unlike other reviewers I was not impressed with the grounds-keeping of this garden, however there were endless tourists and no control at entrances. Bus after tour bus unloaded and hundreds of walking tourists and bus tourists were allowed to come in all at the same time making our visit, super disappointing. I think they are trying to bounce back after COVID and they are trying but I do think they would be better served taking only on-line tickets, this would help with crowds. Some of the visitors were walking through the gardens in areas obviously just meant to be seen and not walked through. Also there was little to no signage making it confusing to walk the grounds and museum. As others have said, skip the museum, the Napoleon exhibit that was running was also super difficult to follow. One recommendation I have is if you visit, go here first then next door to the Giardino Botanico di Villa Cipressi it is very quiet, serene and peaceful with much fewer people, gorgeous, great signage and well-kept.

We arrived knowing nothing about this place and when we saw you had to pay we almost backed out and were skeptical, because we wanted to use our time to swim somewhere instead. But for students it’s only £3,50 so we went for it and i have no regrets. We skipped the interior part but the walk through the botanical gardens was probably the most beautiful, memorable, and enjoyable parts of our day at lake como. You can’t beat the views and it was just amazing overall. The water below looked absolutely lovely and although we didn’t have time to swim, we realized the entry to that magical, sort of hidden beach is just to the right of the villa entrance when you are facing it. Varenna and the villa should definitely be a part of your itinerary, the town is small and charming, with accessible swimming and really fabulous viewpoints all throughout it. Sort of a side note but worth noting that the only downside is the people at the ferry don’t communicate very clearly so be sure to explain what tickets you have and ask very specific questions so you aren’t stranded.
