Severe black mold issue. Unhealthy to stay in. Unacceptable at any cost let alone the $400 a night. Plenty of good reviews here, but stay away- I rarely leave reviews of hotels, but feel that it is important in this case that the Agriturismo Castello di Vezio know and have the opportunity to fix the significant problem that they have and for future guests to be warned. My wife and I checked into the hotel on the 10th of June and were supposed to check out on June 13th. It had been raining in and off for a few days prior to our arrival and during our stay. It was later in the day when we checked in and when we entered the house, we stayed in Julia, there was a very musty/moldy smell. I thought that it was probably due to the rain and being closed up. We had been traveling for a couple of weeks and needed to do some laundry. We were excited to find that the house had a washing machine. Like in many parts of Europe there was no dryer. So we hung up the clothes on a drying rack in the room. That night when we went to bed, the sheets were damp and the moldy. It was difficult to sleep. We actually put the heat on low thinking that it would dry things up, but to no avail. When we got up the next morning the sun was out and we opened the windows to help get fresh air in the house. Because of the rain that night, there was water in the foyer. It must was have leaked through threshold. The clothes were still wet. We put the rack outside and went down the hill to catch a ferry to Bellagio. We enjoyed the day discovering Bellagio and Varenna. We knew it was expected to rain again around 4, so we headed back to the resort. Unfortunately, the clothes hadn’t dried on the line outside, so we planned to go back to Varenna later to dry them at a laundry mat. While back at the house we noticed black mold on the walls in the living room and the mold smell was much stronger. It was after 6pm so there was no staff at reception. They leave at 6pm and return the next day. There is a number to call if you have any questions. we dried our clothes in town, had dinner and headed back to the resort. By that time it was 10pm. We tried to sleep, but the smell was so over powering it was difficult to sleep. At around 1:30am. We packed up and tried to leave the resort. The resort is gated, and the gate was not working. We called for assistance to leave and a woman came out to try to open the gate. After about 30 minutes of trying to open the gate, she called for further assistance. We told her that we needed to leave because of the mold and she said she was sorry. We left with a full night left. The next day I did ask if they would consider refunding me the last nights rate and was told no, that if I had a problem with the room they could have put me in another house. We had to go, it just wasn’t healthy. It is a long story, but the short of it is they should not be renting houses with black mold on the walls. It is not healthy for anyone to breathe. |It is beautiful property, but the house we stayed in needed to be gutted, remediated and redone. I have to believe they are all the same. The daily rate was over $400 per night. Stay in Varenna or Bellagio and stay away from...

Read moreWe had the best stay at Castello di Vezio. The location is hard to beat in many sense (high up on the hills, quite a thrilling drive but with incredible vies).|Valentina greeted us at the gate and gave us a tour of this huge property.|Our apartment Siddy is just outside the gate and is within easy walk to the main house/pool.||The grounds are so beautiful with plants and flowers, cute doggy Siddy and chickens. The historic castle is just a short walk away. ||We dined at their onsite restaurant and the food/drinks were excellent! ||The walk down to Varenna is quite steep (15-20min) but a good exercise!! In the summer it can be very hot, so we really appreciate that our unit comes with two AC units! The kitchen and washer are great as well and so convenient. The fridge is huge and they provided two big bottles of water and milk in it (very thankful for it, as it was very hot outside).||The only surprise we have is that there is no bodysoap or shampoo for the shower. It also does not have any shelf or space to put your stuff, so you have to put everything on the shower floor. We only stayed two nights so we just used the hand soap to wash 😅||As guests of the hotel you get to visit the Castle for free. They have two pools as well, one by the main house and one on the lower terrace which has incredible lake views. We rented a boat recommended by the hotel and it was such a great idea. It was reasonably prices and it was so nice to go out and see the lake villas without having to stand in lines to wait for the ferries. 2-3hours is plenty to tour the lake on the private boat.||Overall we had an...
