Saw this place as we were walking through what I can only describe as a small village square. Definitely wasn’t as touristy as St. Marco Square, so we decided to eat there and enjoy the ambiance (reasonably quiet and some locals kids were playing a game of pick up football in the alley).

I checked the menu outside the restaurant and it said what most menus in Italy say in relation to gluten free (senza glutine) - which is “we will/can accommodate.” A waiter saw us looking at the menu and came over. I asked if there was gluten free options and he said that they had gluten free pasta.

We sat down and the service was reasonably quick. My non-celiac wife was provided with some table bread and the waiter brought out some gluten free bruschetta for me. I was pretty hungry and made quick work of it - so he brought out some more (shout out to the head waiter) lol. I got a glass of wine for €6 and we got an assorted cheese tray for €16.

For my main course, I had the gluten free spaghetti and honestly - it’s the first time I’ve had gluten free spaghetti where it doesn’t fall apart and disappoint me (much like my intestines). I was slurping it! All you celiacs out there know how rare that is. Not sure what type of wizardry this was, but it was delicious!

We had about 3 different waiters over the course of the dinner and they were all fantastic. Everyone was super friendly and explained what each thing was and how it was gluten free. Would recommend!

Anyway - forgot to take a picture of anything because I was super hungry - so here’s a picture of the square as we were leaving (restaurant...

Good quality food for Venetian prices.

I had the filet steak and it was really good. I normally don’t eat pieces of meat like that, but all the fish dishes were not my thing, so I had too. But I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meat. They only better leave the mushrooms, which came with it, out. Slimey with a weird taste and I love mushrooms normally. My partner had the mixed grilled fish plate and she liked it too, especially the langoustines.

The tiramisu was, again this holiday (the third place), a disappointment 😖 Mascarpone downgraded with whipped cream, no alcohol in it.

It was expensive, and you know that from Venice, but overall you get quality for it at this place. And extra things, like an amuse, free limoncello with the dessert etc.

The waiter was, eeeehm, well, effective, haha. A bit hasty, ADHD, trying to be helpful, but not really succeeding. For instance, my partner didn’t really wanted a dessert and asked if she could get just one scoop of vanille icecream. He said, so you want the icecream? She said, well I would like just one scoop, and he brought her the full dessert, which we had to pay for too of course 😖 I have the feeling his colleagues were better at their jobs,...

We had a lovely evening and felt thoroughly spoilt until the waiter produced our bill (a bill he never showed us and told us he was giving us a discount - making our bill just 350 euros, discounted from 379. We paid then realised that our bill couldn't possibly be that much. When we asked for a copy of the bill the staff suddenly became nervous and the 'manager' disappeared. The bill we received did indeed come to 350euros without any acknowledgment of the discount we were supposed to have had. There was also an unexplained gratuity of 81 euros added. This was 'a mistake', 'added accidentally from another table' and yet they didn't add an extra couple of bottles of wine, or a few extra courses. It was added as a quite separate entity - a gratuity. The manager was a pompous, ego fuelled waste of time and the waiting staff looked nervous as hell. This is an obvious scam they pull on unsuspecting tourists all the time. Don't eat there. They are conmen, they scam money from unsuspecting people by giving them an extra limoncello and 'charming' them into thinking they're so kind. They lie, they cheat and scam and then when they're caught they say it was a mistake. AVOID AVOID...

We had a great experience here! Don't be put off by the price - the quality (and quantity) of the food and the service more than made it affordable. The manager was a great host - he frequently came around to chat with us (and other guests too) and made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. We didn't have to wait too long for our food and the service was efficient unlike what some other reviews suggested - but it might be because we went at 2pm, so it was less crowded. The food was fantastic. The sea bass - which my picture does no justice to - was cooked to perfection. The millerighe was the best tomato based pasta dish I've had so far with aubergines that still retain their flavour, unlike other places that completely mask their taste when they cook them with sauces, and was served with ricotta cheese that complemented the sauce. The lemon sorbet is worth getting! Its sourness and sweetness are well balanced and the helping was generous. They served complimentary bruschetta and a basket of bread while we waited for our food, and a flask of limoncello to round off our meal. Both main dishes were recommended by a waiter, so if you're not sure what to get just consult with them :)
