How do I even start? The hotel had no elevators/lifts.. fine.. We were given the top floor, which looked like an attic converted into a bedroom. On the farther end was ours, on the other end, was an empty room they said. ||We requested for a double bed, only to have 2 singles pushed together, thinking that something like that would fool the guests.||The breakfast was modest and horrible. The pastry wasn't fresh as suggested, their coffee machine only served black coffee because as per the old guy (maybe he's the owner) they are "resetting" the coffee machine which looked older than any coffee machine I have ever seen.||||We have read bad reviews about this place, mostly because the place was being "renovated" like the internet was slow because they were switching to fiber optic, the rooms were musty because they were being renovated.. seeing those reviews were almost a year ago, we thought the place would have improved.||||WRONG||||1. The internet was crap! It wasn't working (pardon my french)||2. The sky cable was crap! It wasn't working, even if you try to auto channel it as it is asking||3. AC wasn't working as the frontdesk said they don't use AC that time of year.. Really? You are going to tell your guests that it's cold for you when it's actually HOT for them?||4. Bathroom was clean but had a musty smell, and was dark, lighting wasn't very good||5. The door to our room (which they said was the master bedroom) had a creepy sound when you open and close it.. Like a man moaning, I kid you not!||6. The fridge wasn't working. It was plugged in, but it didn't cool or anything, frontesk girl said they will check it but nothing improved. Also, the fridge had a mouldy smell. It was clean but it smelt bad||7. The bathroom was outside our room. They said that wing was reserved for families, and no one else would use the other room across our room. Which still made us uncomfortable. ||8. Because the AC wasn't working, we had to keep the windows open at night which made us uncomfortable, even when we were a bit high up||9. Furniture like the sitting chair in our room wasn't so stable, it creaked and felt the legs were going to give when we tried to sit on it.. Furniture was old and worn. It was nostalgic maybe but come on!||10. The neighbors will either keep you awake or wake you up in the night in the morning, take your pick. You can literally hear them talking from inside their houses||11. Old guy (who can be the owner) refused to let us in the small eating area before 8 am.. we got there at 7:47.. I don't know what the fuss was about, the breakfast display was horrid and tasted poorly :( it was so bad, we skipped breakfast the next day and just hurried out of there. ||12. The curtains in our room was old and scratched and had holes :( I don't think I should have paid that much to be in a room like that||13. The carpets in the staircase were a loose, if you misstep, you will slip on the carpet and fall down the stairs! I don't think that was a safe place at all.||||The only perk about that place was it was close to San Marco and the ferry stops, the staff do try to be helpful but I think they don't really follow through to as what they promise when they say they will check on something, they don't even ask you if the matter has been resolved as we have experienced with other hotels.||||This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Sorry couldn't give it a better review. The hotel wasn't cheap, and the rates are too much considering the quality of the hotel. This hotel can be good for people who don't care about getting AC or internet, or a working fridge, or can settle on a horrid breakfast.||||Believe me, my husband and I are people of modest taste, so if we say it was bad, it...
Read moreAs usual the review will start with, where do I begin, finding the hotel can be a bit taxing, official website tells you to get of at another stop, which is no where near this hotel, after personally looking where hotel is, it is easy to find.||||Upon checking in, you are greeted nicely, and given the key to your room, when I see key, I mean a weapon which can be used to kill someone with a key attached.||||There is no lift in this hotel, can be annoying when you are lugging baggage up to the second floor.||||We were given a converted attic as our room, which we were told is usually reserved for families, our toilet was outside our room, so we were left uneasy with that.||||The room itself was very old fashioned, despite reading the reviews prior to booking, it stated on their website "rooms have been recently refurbished" if this is what they look like after refurbishment, I dread to think what they were like prior.||||Wooden beams above our heads with thick in dust, clearly have not been cleaned in months.||||We asked for a double bed, only to be given 2 single beds pushed together, as if we would not notice.||||Bed was like sleeping on a massive piece of slate. ||||Bathroom was clean, but horrible smell coming from the sink holes and shower holes.||||Fridge was plugged in but was not working, TV was not working, Air con was not working, we decided to just drop our things and head out.||||Upon exit, we told the reception lady, that the fridge and tv was not working, she said "they would look at" that is probably all they did, was look at it.||||We were told the owner would not turn the air con, as at this time of year, it's not hot, well when you come from a colder climate, and you are dripping with sweat it's hot, and to be told we can not use it, is a kick in the sack, when you pay for a hotel, you expect air-con to be made available, this is what you pay for when you book a room, if they had said on their website, "air-con not available this time of year", problem would be avoided.||||Breakfast was at 8am till 10am - we got down at 7:47, and were told breakfast not ready, ok so we were 13mins early, what's the big deal, we would of been happy to sit down and wait. ||||Breakfast consisted of a single croissant, and one coffee, "only one" no refill. We asked for cappuccino, to be told cappuccino not working, machine being upgraded, blatant lie, as you can see by the machine there was no upgrading that.||||Few things I would point out about this hotel.||||1. No wifi - despite being told there is, there is ISN'T!||2. Sky tv in room, there ISN'T (Told they would fix it, they didn't)||3. Fridge in room, does not work (Told they would fix it, they didn't||4. Stair-cases are a death trap, carpet runner isn't fitted securely, I work for a carpet fitting company and this was terrible, carpet handing off, stair rods where not secured, if someone tripped they would pull the carpet with them, and up being impaled on the stair-rods.||5. Air-Con, not available when deemed not hot by the owner ( you can not tell your guests it isn't hot so no air con) this is poor customer service.||||Hotel needs a major revamp on rooms, stairs, the whole lot really. ||If you are looking for someone where to stay, look elsewhere, we did read the reviews however cause they were over a year old and they said they were being revamped we gave it a shot, which we very much...
Read moreRecently returned after a week's stay in this beautiful city at this great little hotel situated only a few minutes walk away from the Grand Canal near the Accademia Bridge. On arrival our luggage was immediately and gladly taken up the fairly steep staircase to our comfortable room on the top floor by the very friendly young chap on the desk (Ariel). The fully appointed and traditionally decorated rooms were kept scrupulously clean throughout our stay by the friendly and very obliging Alma. The compact breakfast room saw perfectly adequate pastries and various coffees served by the friendly owner (Max) with the opportunity of self serve refills if wanted. The friendly Michael and another young lady sometimes helped cleaning/breakfast. Throughout the day the charming receptionist Chiara (who spoke perfect English as did the other staff) willingly provided valuable local advice and tips : we had deliberately planned our stay for the absolutely stunning pageant that preceded the Regatta Storica and Chiara gave us invaluable advice on the best yiewpoints - thank you! Getting to the hotel from the Accademia waterbus stop meant a very exhausting (with two suitcases!) climb over the Accademia Bridge over the Grand Canal : Max,the very helpful owner, kindly advised the nearby San Samuele stop to be much, much easier and more convenient which it was, being only a couple of minutes away! Although in typically Venetian very close proximity to neighbouring properties we found it to have entirely adequate natural light and interior lighting was perfectly ok in the evenings. The air conditioning (initially and correctly adjusted by Ariel) always worked perfectly and made for a very comfortable stay. The carpet in the lower half of the stairway was relaid during our stay. The central location of the hotel is utterly superb with regard to local sights, transport, restaurants and the Canal itself and yet it is perfectly quiet and peaceful. The one and only downside requiring attention was the lack of a working room safe - the one provided was perfectly anchored but it did not work! A very comfortable stay overall - great staff and we cannot wait to return!! Absolutely fantastic...
