It has been a while since I dined here, and I meant to leave a review about it a while back. I was just going to let it go, but recently I visited another Yakiniku restaurant that uses the same grills and I felt compelled to go back and write this one finally as well.
I have visited a many many many Yakiniku restaurants across Japan now as I have lived here for many years and there seems to be a trend with new restaurants using this Healthy Roaster. I am not sure if it is a cost saving decision because they are supposedly smokeless and the restaurant would not need to install the elaborate ventilation system or what, but the Healthy Roaster ruins the Yakiniku experience. The sizzle that you expect to hear from grilling meats does not happen when you put the meat on this contraption that I will not call a grill. It is more of an oven, and an oven does not give you the same flavor as grilling meats on a gas or charcoal grill! The meats take forEVER to cook on this thing but somehow the heat is so overwhelming that it often burns your hands because the tongs are not long enough. I’m ok with some rare meats too and even eat some raw like yuke or liver sashi (uma), but the Healthy Roaster makes it difficult to tell if any meats are cooked well or not and some meats I just prefer a little more cooked like tongue and horumon.
If I remember correctly, there is no Yakiniku sauce, and while I prefer some meats with just salt or salt and wasabi, sometimes I would like some sauce to dip it in as well.
Two stars because the atmosphere was nice, but was lacking any view. Meats were great quality, but would be better with...
Read moreYakiniku Fugugyu is an exceptional dining destination in Okinawa, offering an unforgettable Japanese barbecue experience. The restaurant exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere, blending modern design with traditional Japanese aesthetics. Whether you’re visiting with friends, family, or on a solo adventure, the ambiance feels both intimate and lively.
The highlight, of course, is the premium quality wagyu beef. Fugugyu takes pride in serving locally sourced cuts, including Okinawan beef, which melts in your mouth with its rich marbling and tender texture. Each cut is carefully selected and presented beautifully, enhancing the experience of grilling your meal at the table. In addition to beef, they offer a range of fresh seafood, chicken, and vegetables, ensuring something for every palate.
The staff is attentive and friendly, guiding you through the menu and grilling techniques if you’re new to yakiniku. Their knowledge about the origin of the ingredients adds a personal touch, making the meal feel special.
Fugugyu also excels in its side dishes. The kimchi, salads, and dipping sauces perfectly complement the grilled meat, adding bursts of flavor to every bite. Pairing the meal with their selection of sake or local Orion beer is a must for a complete Okinawan experience.
Prices are reasonable for the quality, and the portions are generous. For those seeking a truly luxurious treat, the premium wagyu options are worth every yen.
Overall, Yakiniku Fugugyu offers a harmonious blend of top-tier ingredients, excellent service, and authentic Japanese barbecue culture. It’s a must-visit spot for food...
Great restaurant… maybe? You don’t have to eat here, but you should definitely bring a friend to try it out. As soon as we sat down, they started aggressively recommending the 35,000 yen set. I wanted to look at the rest of the menu, but they didn’t let me turn the page at first. The staff didn’t seem well-trained. Even the boss lady came over to “recommend” things together. They spoke a mix of Japanese and English, and I had no idea what was going on. Eventually, when they realized we couldn’t understand, she sighed and walked away (?). With that kind of price, I could enjoy excellent tableside service at a nice restaurant in Taiwan. Here, no one grills for you. Honestly, there are plenty of better yakiniku places in Okinawa. No need to be stuck on this one. You decide. /
