Junenji Temple — Attraction in Kyoto

Jyunenji Temple 十念寺（じゅうねんじ） : The temple was originally built in 1431 and transferred to present location in 1591 by Hideyoshi Toyotomi. The current temple buiulding was designed by Kokuchi KyoKo who was a chief priest of Osaka Isshinji. He was also known as an architect. It is a temple of a modern architecture which was completed in 1993. The temple was relocated to current location from Motosengaji / Ogawa ( which is farther south on Teramachi street ) in 1431.The Amida-Nyurai statue in this temple was brought from Higashiyama Ungo temple.The treasure kept in this temple are " Bukkin Emaki picture scroll " describing a war against demons in the hell and other historical record books. There is a grave of Yoshinori Ashikaga ( 6th shogun of Muromachi period ) in this temple. these statues will be shown to the public on their special open day. The place is usually closed up. 2023年4月9日に参拝しました。 モダンな本堂が特徴的な1431年に創建された由緒ある寺院。 過去に2回ほど本堂が焼失していることから、洋風のコンクリート造りにしたのかもしれません(勝手な想像です)。古都の和は感じられず山門とはミスマッチのような気がしますが、和と洋が融合しておりこれはこれで良いのかもしれません。 紙本着色仏鬼軍絵巻などの重要文化財を所有していますが、通常非公開寺院のようです。 お庭はとても綺麗に整備されており参拝時も深紅の花(レンゲツツジ?...

こちらのお寺は京阪電車鴨東線の出町柳駅から徒歩で10分程度または京都市営バスにて河原町今出川バス停から徒歩5分の寺町通り沿いに立地します。出町柳駅からの道中はまず鴨川デルタがあり賀茂川を渡ります、次に和菓子屋のふたばさんや枡形商店街を抜けて寺町通りに出てから北へ3分ほど行ったところとなります。室町幕府の三代将軍の足利義満の子で第六代将軍となった足利義教公の墓所ともなっており国指定の重要文化財も保管されている大変由緒ある...
