We spent a few hours walking around this area on the waterfront and around the small town. This place is really quiet, with trails in nature just facing the water and few people letting you enjoy the sounds of nature. Definitely a place I would recommend if you want to spend an afternoon. We also arrived here late in the afternoon so we did not manage to visit the temples which are also recommended but nonetheless it was worth stopping by. If you come by car there is a free parking lot above the town before you arrive on the street facing the water. GoogleMaps should help you if you search for "free parking" 😄

A large waterfront park, recent extensions on the east side to Fukuurabashi Bridge. Plenty of boardwalk and trails to stroll along the waterfront and enjoy the scenery. A few rest rooms and maps along the way.

Amazing landscape. Hearsay these islands slow down the tsunami and enable locals to escape from it. Definitely need to take the cruiser to admire these islands. Come here during nice weather.

Beautiful temple in the middle of town offering views of the ocean and the town, cross three bridges and enjoy the lovely temple and its beautiful woodwork.

Matsushima Prefectural Natural Park is a Prefectural Natural Park on the east coast of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. First designated for protection in 1902, the park spans the municipalities of Higashimatsushima, Matsushima, Rifu, Shichigahama, and Shiogama. The park centres upon the eponymous pine islands of Matsushima.
