Gondo Shopping Street — Attraction in Nagano

This shopping street in Nagano definitely catches your eyes when you first pass it by.

It is a long corridor covered by a glass colored ceiling. It is great when it's raining (which was the case for us) to have a stroll around shops and restaurants. When we visited it was on a weekday so it was not really busy but I was surprised by a couple of side streets connecting to the main one. They were really quaint.

Other than that it is just a shopping street but worth a walk through it...

Regretfully, on a Tuesday afternoon, the street is almost deserted. Most people who took this path basically are just trying to get to the other side.

Shops are mostly closed, and some probably for good.

The remaining shops basically sells thing to cater to local population.

Other than the statue in the middle, nothing...

・長野駅からも善光寺さんからも徒歩15分の場所にあります。つまり、善光寺さんに訪問する往復の中で立ち寄れる地元の商店街となります。また商店街はアーケードになっているので、雨でも安心して観光できます。

・善光寺の被災時には「仮堂」としての役割を5回も果たしたらしく、その名が由来して「権堂」となっているようです。

・昭和の香りの漂う喫茶店や手打ちそばのお店、ラーメン屋さんなど沢山の飲食店がありました。アーケードを東に抜けると、さらに昭和感満載の古き良き懐かしさ漂う居酒屋さんが沢山ありました。次回は、是非この辺で飲み歩きたいです。夜のお店も多く、歓楽街にもなっているみたいですね。 ・他にも、お菓子の激安店や服飾系から占い、クリニック、映画館、美容院もあり、地元の方の生活と観光客が共存できる素敵な商店街のにおいがしました。

・商店街を少しそれた道にも、古くから営まれている多数の飲食店さんもあり、入店しなくともその雰囲気を想像して味わうことができました。大好きな昔ながらの商店街の雰囲気。この中にまぎれられるようにスケジュールを整えて再訪することを決意しました。笑
