New Otani Tokyo The Main: A Garden Oasis with Room for Improvement My recent stay at the New Otani Tokyo The Main presented a unique blend of delights and drawbacks. The undisputed highlight was the breathtaking Japanese gardens. These meticulously landscaped havens offered a tranquil escape, showcasing the beauty of traditional Japanese design. Wandering through them in the daytime was a serene experience, and the illuminated waterfall at night added a touch of magic. However, the location might not suit everyone. While not a significant distance, the 10-15 minute walk to the nearest metro/JR station meant taxis were often the more convenient option for getting around, adding to the overall cost. The room itself was comfortable, with a luxurious bed for a restful sleep. However, given the price point, I felt it could have benefited from some modernization. The bathroom, in particular, seemed a bit outdated, and the short shower was a minor inconvenience. Another disappointment was the discovery that the pool was closed during my stay. Considering the beautiful weather during my visit (around 26 degrees Celsius!), a refreshing dip would have been fantastic. It's always a good idea to check the availability of amenities before booking, especially during specific seasons. Breakfast, which was included in my stay, wasn't quite what I expected. While it wasn't inedible, the quality didn't quite justify the overall cost. If you choose to stay here, exploring the many breakfast options available in the surrounding area might be a better choice. Overall: The New Otani Tokyo The Main offers a unique experience. If you prioritize a luxurious, modern hotel with top-notch amenities and an ultra-convenient location, this might not be the best fit. However, if the stunning Japanese gardens hold a special allure, and you're comfortable with a slightly out-of-the-way location and potential taxi reliance, then this hotel could be a good option. Just be mindful of the potential shortcomings in the rooms, breakfast, and the possibility of the pool being closed during your visit.

July 2024 Check-in was quick and smooth- the bell person took our bags and delivered them to our room at the exact time we went up to our room- no waiting for our bags. There is a very helpful concierge who can provide great recommendations and can help with reservations. The gardens were spectacular. The beds and pillows and duvet were very comfortable, the heating and cooling in the room was nearly silent, and the elevators quick to access and ride. No smells in the hallway or room or lobby. Our room (and the lobby) was well airconditioned in the summer heat- and I like it to feel cool. Great water pressure in the bathroom and lots of immediate very hot water. The Bar Capri had excellent service and ambiance, and the Sky Bar offered great views. The breakfast buffet, which can be enjoyed with a garden view or a Sky Bar view, has a reasonably good selection of choices- all high quality (but no live omelet station). The gym had a good selection of machines and stations. Convenient access to four subway stations (tip- you can walk through the Garden Tower and Garden Court to get to the Nagatacho and Alaska-Mitsuke subway stations. We were there in the hot summer, and being able to walk inside in air conditioning most of the way is really a benefit!). Two things that can be improved- there is a fee to use the pool unless you are a New Otani Club member. It is free to join the club, so this is not really a problem, but it seems to me that the pool should be free to all hotel guests. And our bathroom could use a refresh. It was clean and smell-free and the toilet worked well, but the hand-held shower nozzles on the wall and the exposed toilet plumbing were from a previous era. I would definitely stay here again. Tip: 1) Join the New Otani Club (free) to access the pool for free 2) Access Nagatacho and Akasaka-Mitsuke subway stations from Garden Court

UDATE on my previous review. Since my previous review everything changed. Like true Japanese fashion, the service Team did not allow us to leave without feeling welcomed and fulfilled with our stay. They truly went above and beyond to rectify the issues listed below and even accommodated us in a MUCH nicer room. The management Team here are exceptional. Once they got wind of the issues, they strapped their boots and got to work right away. My wife and I have never felt so special in our lives. We really loved this placed. TOTAL LET DOWN..I was coming into this place with high expectations, considering price point and history of the place. Please see my previews reviews, I normally DO NOT do 1 star reviews unless I feel it deserves it. I am writing this review from the room I am staying in and still here for another night. Here is the reason for my ONE STAR: My room had a stench of URINE in it coming out of the bathroom and into the room. Enough to make my wife and myself gag from the smell. It felt as if they cleaned the room and just ignored the smell before handing us the room key. I called the help desk and they send someone up to assess the problem. The gentleman noticed it right away and had us wait in this urine while they found another room. They then transferred us to another of the same room ( I paid a bit more for a nicer room because I am on my 10 year anniversary), this room WAS AGAIN disturbing. The carpet floors have stains all over and it feels as if though they did the bare minimum to maintain and clean the room. This is so disappointing. I hate ending my trip to Japan this way. If you are looking for a nice place to stay, please do yourself the favor and look for something elsewhere. Again, the price point of this place should allow you to feel like you are where you paid to be. This did not do that. It did the opposite...

I am currently staying at the new otani, the main. Checking out tomorrow thank God! I’ll by saying that i have been in Japan for 17days on this trip, and have stayed at many hotels for 2 to 3nights in several cities and booked the new otani as a last bit of luxury before flying back home! The room is spacious, and offers good views on the 13th floor! And the breakfast buffet was okay from what I have seen at other hotels which have all been of a lower class - mostly 4star hotels and so I expected better here, but was quickly told I needed to pay extra for a better quality breakfast! There are only a few tables on the window at the garden tower restaurant for breakfast and the manager told me they were reserved so couldn’t sit there. At breakfast, my partner’s plates kept being cleared off the table and mine were being left and twice the ladies didn’t after taking away my partner’s dishes, to clear mine as well so I had all my used dishes around me 🤷🏿♀️ which was odd as there was many staff! The bathroom is old and tired, the bath itself is small, and although clean and has a lot of supplies, it needs repair- the vent is rusty and the shower head is worse for wear! Bathroom door is clanky and doesn’t lock properly so can hear whoever is in the bathroom! I could hear noise from the room next door at 5am 😳 The location appears okay and there’re signs from the metro so that was helpful! Many restaurants in the building! I was so excited to stay here but will go home underwhelmed by my experience here which is a shame! Will be cancelling my membership and not staying again unfortunately!
