Rose Hotel Yokohama, member of WorldHotels Distinctive — Attraction in Yokohama

My family of 16 stayed at the Rose Hotel in Yokohama from June 12 -18 June 2025. It was the second time in 8 years my brother and I had traveled from the Washington D.C. area to bury a parent at the Yokohama Foreigners Cemetery. First time was our dad who was born in Yokohama in 1937 and now it was our mom. We brought my 3 children and their spouses, 7 grandkids and my husband. This visit we needed 7 rooms all on the same floor, 5 kings and 2 triples one with an extra bed. It worked out great because my oldest granddaughter is 18 so she was in charge of the younger 3 girls and my oldest grandson is also 18 so he was with other 2 teen grandsons. What made this stay at the Rose Hotel so great started way back in late Feb 2025 when I contacted a very sweet and knowledgeable Junko Ishibashi ! She helped with all my numerous questions and emails and phone calls. When we finally arrived 5 hours late due to a flight delay we had a speedy check in and everything was perfect. ( yes the rooms were sorta hot but we got them cooled down right away! The weather was really hot and muggy in Japan in June) I met Junko the next day and she is even more charming in person! We all felt at home at this hotel. All the staff was accommodating and friendly. The food at the breakfast buffet was outstanding! My grandchildren and children are adventurous eaters and most of them loved the Chinese and Japanese foods for breakfast! Some ate rice and curry everyday, seaweed and rice and cucumber, dumplings and croissants, omelets and sausages .We also had a special French meal catered for a larger family gathering after my mother’s internment at the cemetery on Saturday night. It was scrumptious! They provided kids meals for the younger guests. My aunt lives in Kamakura and she also stayed at the hotel while we were there. She enjoyed her stay very much and was the reason we picked this hotel again! She had booked it backed in 2017 when my brother, mom and I came for my father. We had a few long days of sightseeing after the funeral and the morning we left Junko was there to see us as we waited for the bus to Haneda.when I hugged her goodbye it was like saying goodbye to an old friend! It was a very emotional trip for my brother and I. The Rose Hotel is in the best location right in Chinatown near the train stations , McDonald’s, ,Mega Don Quixote, Yokohama park and the area feels safe! Worst Hotel Experience in Japan – Totally Not Worth It!

This was by far the worst hotel we stayed at during our entire trip to Japan.

The room was extremely cramped and outdated. Upon check-in, they tried to upsell us by showing a misleading photo of a so-called “luxury” room and pushed us to pay an extra 3,000 yen for an upgrade. DO NOT fall for it — the actual room was dark, worn out, and had zero view (just some messy buildings outside the window).

One of the main reasons we booked this hotel was because of the pool shown in the photos. But beware: the pool is NOT included and costs extra to use — something that was not clearly stated in the promotional pictures. Even worse, when our child wanted to swim and the adults didn’t, we were told that adults also had to pay just to accompany the child — even if not swimming!

Unlike every other hotel we stayed at in Japan, this one did NOT provide enough towels or amenities for the number of guests — we had to pay extra even for basic items like a towel for our child. This kind of policy feels extremely cheap and unfriendly.

What really left a bad taste was the poor service. When we tried to express our concern about the misleading advertising regarding the pool, the female manager at the front desk coldly told us, “That’s not our responsibility, talk to the platform you booked from.” Zero sense of accountability or hospitality — a complete shock in Japan, where service is usually exceptional.

We had high expectations for Yokohama, but unfortunately this hotel experience ruined it for us. It’s overpriced, low quality, and the service was by far the worst we encountered in Japan.

We stayed here twice in about 2 weeks. The difference in rooms was amazing.||||1st night the room. was luxurious with medium high beds with 4 pillows on each and lots of toiletries in bathroom. and complimentary bottled water.||||2nd night we stayed room was average beds were very low and only 2 pillows on each bed. only bulk toiletries in bathroom and no bottled water. If I hander stayed before I would have thought it was just a typical room but the difference was amazing.||The hotel was lovely though and do not have any complaints. We were there when the typhoon hit and the staff were amazing even to the point of sending a boy to the front and back streets of hotel to hail us a cab as the taxi phones were out of action.||||We had both breakfast and lunch in the restaurant and the food was lovely and plentiful. The breakfast croissants were as good as any I have had in Europe and would recommend them. The Burger was about 8 inches high and most of that was meat Pattie.
