Vat Sene (1714 and renovated in 1932 and 2000 Name: Wat Sen Soukharam = Monastery of the 100000 felicities). The vat Sene was built in 1714 by King Kitsarath. During the restoration in 1932 and 1957, the temple was completely transformed. Originally the roof consisted only two panels and three arcades and porches of the facade. Today the temple is highest with three sections and five porches, giving it most a Thai style than Xieng Khuang style as it was originally. A new building has been built with respect for religious architectural unity of the city. It is intended to house a collection of furniture and statues. This is in the Vat Sene where lies the Big Satou, the venerable of the Buddhist community of Luang Prabang. It’s one of the most beautiful temples in Luang Prabang, singular supported by the very expression of a restored ocher, flamboyant and glittering gold. Built in 1718 by the king Kitsarath with 100,000 stones outputs of theMekong, the temple consists of a vihan, one That and several koutis, shelter canoes (in which rest 2 beautiful racing canoes), and a drum shelter. It’s the first monastery of the city whose vihan was covered with yellow and red tiles in modern Thai style. We find the same type of colors to Wat Nong Sikhounmuang. Sim: dual roof slope failure, Thai fashionable tiles unappreciated by the people of Luang Phabang. The entrance is guarded by two lions and the pulpit and the urn on display were parts of the colonial exhibition in Paris in 1931. Sala: roof to a single slope failure, decor red stencil on the bottom and inside the Buddhist monuments of the world are represented. 3 gold Thats are in the Southeast court.

Vat Sensoukharam is one of Luang Prabang’s most beautiful and historic temples. Built in 1718, it was commissioned by King Kitsarath and is dedicated to bringing joy and prosperity to all who visit—its name, Sensoukharam, fittingly means ‘Temple of 100,000 Treasures.’ The temple’s architecture is stunning, with intricate gold detailing and traditional Lao design elements that reflect the town’s rich Buddhist heritage. The red and gold facade is especially striking and captures the essence of Luang Prabang’s spiritual and artistic heritage. Unlike some of the more crowded temples, Vat Sensoukharam maintains a peaceful atmosphere, allowing visitors to soak in its beauty and history without the usual tourist rush. If you’re in Luang Prabang, don’t miss this serene, awe-inspiring gem—it’s a wonderful glimpse into the town’s history and spirituality.

A beautiful temple compound that one can visit. Its name, Wat Sen, means “Temple of 100,000 treasures” as it was built using 100,000 stones from the Mekong river, and is one of the main historical religious sites in Luang Prabang. It has a very spectacular design and murals, and most definitely played a significant role in Luang Prabang attaining the UNESCO Heritage Site recognition. Best of all, entrance to visit the Wat is free.

This was one of the larger temples on the main road in Luang Prabang, and it also felt like one of the busier ones. The temple buildings were nice and the grounds were clean, but it didn't have the plants and flowers of some of the other nearby temples. Also there was a lot going on here when I visited, so it wasn't as relaxing as some of its neighbors. Still, worth stopping in for a minute or two as you walk through town.

Wat Sensoukharam is said to be named for a donation of 1 sene or 100,000 kip for the temple’s construction in 1714. The temple’s scarlet walls are a unique feature in Luang Prabang and are elegantly stenciled with gold leaf. Wat Sene was renovated to commemorate the 2500 anniversary of the Buddha’s birth in 1957. A chapel in front also houses a large standing Buddha.
