a bit misleading as it is not really a morning market except for the produce which i believe is so because of the heat and sun can damage it. it is basically an indoor market that stays open all day and mostly opens about 8ish, though you can find some open earlier slowly opening. it is more of a bazaar than a market, as it is a sort of chaotic array of indoor stores in a maze. there are some outdoor stands the extend around the perimeter and up to the Khua Din market by the bus station a block away. if you are looking for unique items, you may find some here, but this is mainly a local Lao market so you may not get very good deal and the clothing will be mostly contemporary Laotian style. if you go here, i would recommend you go after it to the Khua Din market that is a block away and starts at the bus station, so it caters as well to travelers, for a complete shopping experience, between the two markets, you should be able to find what you are looking for. my review reflects going to both markets as in a sense, they are so close, the mall and the bus station, you could consider them both part of the morning market.

Nice that its indoors! There are 2 clean elevators to make getting around easier. We parked on the roof and paid 5K or 10K kip (cant recall). Took elevator down to 3rd floor to eat. The dining hall had decent air conditioning so it was a nice change from the hot street food with hovering flies. One odd thing about eating here is that you need to change your kips to coupons. Vendors can only accept coupons for some reason. If you have left over coupons, you can change them back to kips. I wandered and decided what I wanted to eat. Added up my bill then only converted exactly what i needed. Regarding shopping for goods, there are numerous places to buy clothing, handbags, jewelry, moneygram services. Beware, there are lots of counterfeit goods here. Buy at your own risk and remember: ya get what you pay for! My wife did buy traditional lao silk dresses for both her and our daughter. She got a small discount on her purchase which is common here. One of the shops I stopped at started high pressure tactics as I decided I was not going to buy the items I looked at (these things may get u in trouble in the USA).

Talat Sao Morning Market is a well-known local shopping spot in Vientiane, and it’s quite popular among locals. It has a decent range of items—from clothes and shoes to electronics, jewelry, cosmetics, and especially bags and accessories. If you’re specifically looking to buy bags, luggage, or similar items, this is probably one of the better places to go. However, for foreigners or tourists, the market may not feel all that exciting. Apart from the bag-related items, there isn’t much that stands out or feels unique. Many stalls seem to sell similar things, and the overall vibe is more like a regular shopping mall than a cultural market experience. It lacks the charm or energy you might expect from a bustling Southeast Asian market. That said, it’s clean, air-conditioned, and convenient if you’re in the area—but it might not be worth going out of your way for unless you’re in need of something specific

Talat Sao Mall in Vientiane is a vibrant and bustling shopping destination that captures the essence of Laotian culture and commerce. As a frequent visitor to Vientiane, I have had the opportunity to explore this market numerous times, and each visit has left me impressed by its offerings and atmosphere. First and foremost, Talat Sao Mall is a melting pot of goods, ranging from traditional Lao textiles and handicrafts to modern electronics and accessories. Whether you're searching for authentic souvenirs to take home or everyday essentials, you're likely to find it amidst the maze of stalls and shops. The variety of products available ensures that there's something for everyone, making it a favorite among both locals and tourists alike.

This is the old style of mall, very crowded yet with a nice atmosphere. Plenty of boutiques are distributed throughout 4 levels: on -1 level, and on the ground floor, you can find all sorts of things, on +1 level is mainly jewellery and gold while level +2 is occupied by textiles. The vast majority of shops accept credit cards, but they charge an additional fee for it. ATM of all major banks can be found though, at the main entrance and there are also a couple of them inside. Next to the building, there are stalls of smaller sellers, mainly with various herbs and Chinese medicaments. Interesting thing: You can see that there are offerings at some statues of Buddha or other spiritual beings even though these are shop items. 🙄

Most guides will say that the market opens at 7am onwards. We went at 0830, and the mall was shut tightly. Only one stall was open. Better to go after 9am so there is less waiting time. Generally quite an interesting place to see, but nothing really stands out. Wouldn’t really call it a market per se, more of a shopping mall. The mall generally sells clothes and bags, though there are quite a lot of miscellaneous items being sold too. Quite a tall building too. There are some food trucks outside selling, which more closely resembles a market
