LIDO is a cafeteria style restaurant that allows you to try a lot of latvian dishes for a more reasonable price. in terms of quality, you do get what you pay for, but we liked the fact that we could taste a bit of different dishes in a more cost effective way.
this location is a bit further from old town so it may be less touristy. it has both outdoor and indoor seating. i think the old town had nicer patio outdoor seating.
there was a queue and i would say it moves kind of slowly because usually there is one or two employees serving dishes in the line. desserts are first, then hot food, then any salads or add ons. then you pay at the end. in my opinion they should have more staff because a lot of time is spent waiting in line to get the attention of the employee serving food.
saithe with cheese (~4 euros): this was okay; basically fish with cheese on top
sauerkraut (~2 euros): their sauerkraut is slightly stir fried or cooked i think so it has a different flavor than traditional. a bit less sour i think but still has that sour flavor.
potatoes with chicken in mushroom sauce: heavy mushroom cream sauce with smaller bits of chicken and larger mini potatoes.
carrot coleslaw with pumpkin seeds: self explanatory, maybe a bit on the sweet side
the food was okay/decent but overall LIDO is an affordable meal option to try latvian food so we ended up coming for both lunch and dinner. there’s also many...
Read moreI had a bad experience. I was on holidays in Riga for 3 days. I was so hungry and came across this restaurant with a few friends. It’s a self service buffet so we got our trays and chose the food and drinks we wanted. We then went to the register and paid. As we walked to sit at a table we were stopped by a rude waiter who asked for our vaccination certs and ID. We all had the necessary documentation except for me in our group who had a Brazilian vaccination document and passport. He refused to accept it even though I had valid proof. We were told that we couldn’t eat there and had to leave and bring the food with us. I felt humiliating and frustrated. We demanded a refund which they reluctantly gave. The fact I am from Brazil , make me feel like nobody in this country. He was prejudiced with me . He didn’t even want to see my passport . He was xenophobic . I’m sorry, but I will never ever go back to this restaurant and I never...
Read moreLocated very central in Riga, This restaurant offers a self service Buffet cuisine, mainly consisting of typical Latvian food. However, we were amazed by their displays selection. They cater for adults, children, vegetarian and also vegan people. We were told to visit this place by a friend and have absolutely no regrets. Service is fast, mainly because plenty of people know ahead what to eat and food is readily waiting. Restaurant was very clean and staff were helpful when needed. We took a seljanka (Russian meat soup) as a starter, a choice of meat and potatoes for a main course and 3 different pancakes for a dessert, including drinks. (We couldn’t finish everything) Food was very good, typical homemade. Also, they list all their display items in English, along their prices. A definite recommendation for anyone struggling where to grab a deal...
